after an accident with the bundled MDR-NC020 iems (one came apart where the rubber ring is - fortunately managed to repair it) i thought, what about making a custom set of iems that works with the X's NC feature...imho all you need is a pair of iems, microphone or two, that special 3.5 mm plug with 5 connectors and some proper soldering. as i'm waiting for the spare set of MDR-NC020 and due a low budget, cannot start experimenting on the project soon, any opinions and discussion is welcome .

You could probably get away with using a pair of cheap throwaway earbuds as the mics. The x1060/50 do some magic pattern-based recognition that wouldn't require microphone level sensitivity, so I doubt the ones in the original are going to be quality.
Also, this raises the possibility of using super deluxe IEMs, but they'd have to be the same impedance as the original Sony ones, otherwise you'd get crappy nc or horrible inverted noise. Which would be pretty trippy, actually. Those 5 pin plugs are hard to find... If I were you, I'd quickly hack a 3 or 4 pin jack to get mic/speaker for just L or R channel first. Then, after that works, invest $ or time into acquiring a proper jack. But that's me. Good luck, keep us posted! |
