Default Problem with FLAC files on X-Fi2

I can't figure out how to make FLAC files appear in the artist library alongside MP3 files--for some reason, all FLAC files have no album art and appear in the artist library with "TIST" in front of them. This is quite bizarre and I can't for the life of me figure out how to merge FLAC files with the rest of my MP3s, with album art and everything else. I am using Media Monkey to sync the files and tag the art as well, so any suggestion would be appreciated.

"TIST" appears in front of the artist when the FLAC file doesn't carry the appropriate tag. Just re-tag the files with Mp3Tag (freeware), even though Mp3Tag may say the file already has a FLAC tag (I think this is a bug in the program).
When you re-tag them (using the blue-green ball icon with an arrow in the toolbar) it replaces the tag with the proper Vorbis tag, and then the X-Fi2 should display it correctly.
(don't know if MediaMonkey does this correctly.. but Mp3Tag worked for me.)

As for the missing album art on FLAC files; this is a known issue and hopefully it will get fixed in the future, if possible.

Lightbulb Solution for the FLAC Files Cover/TIST= Issue

I was having the same problem and FINALLY found a workaround.
Actually I don't even think its the ZEN s fault because iIf the FLAC tags are properly written the files won't show up with "TIST=" before the artist name. I use Media Monkey/media Player to sync my Zen X-Fi2, and that TIST= Issue _really_ bothered me.

So I played around for hours and finally found a way to solve it

Do the following to have proper tags in your Zen X-fi 2 and a cover picture.

  1. First I close Media Monkey (or any other software)to make sure it doesn't override the tag while Scanning the DB. (Same goes for f.e. Media Player)
  2. I use mp3tag to tag the flac files. First deleting ALL the tag Information (necessary step! - don't just re-write it!), then set the tags and save them - including a cover picture named "folder.jpg". mp3tag will make proper FLAC Tags.
  3. To be absolutely sure that no other program will rewrite or add something to the tag information I make all the files "write-protected".
  4. Now if you copy the files to your Zen via USB (including the folder.jpg Cover picture in the same folder) you will see that everything is fine
  5. Haven't tried out any other software yet - but if you use Media Monkey to sync: be careful that the tags aren't rewritten while scanning/syncing with to your Zen! Media Monkey -and a lot of other programs- seem to set ID3v2 tags to the flac files - which causes the problem with the "TIST=" on your Zen.
  6. Go to the device Sync-Dialogue "My Zen" and uncheck: "Copy Album Art to Track Tags"
  7. In the same dialogue check "Sync all Album Art to Track Folders"
Voila. I know it might be a bit complicated - but it works
So I hope this helps - I'm finally happy with the situation.

Melbe, this is exactly what I have been doing with all my music files for many many years. As a result, I have experienced no problems on any of my players with any of my tags being corrupted or some other mysterious thing happening.

Do I know for sure that setting the read-only attribute is the reason for my success over the years? No.

But I strongly suspect so.

Glad to see I am not the only one who does this. Perhaps other folks who have trouble with this sort of thing will consider trying this simple step.

FINALLY album art for FLAC !! So all this time it wasn't a bug .. (I'm sorry Creative )

Thanks melbe It works for me too !

So the album art has to be called folder.jpg, included in the folder on the player, and also embedded in the vorbis tag (but I suspect this is just a reference/link to the actual jpg).

How did you discover this?? Everyone just gave up and thought it was a bug..
