Khalifa's Kush and OJ mixtape was pretty damn good, too bad his actual album isn't coming out until next year.

You also have some on my list for 2010 but will not spoil it. What didn't you like about this album: Slum Village almost made it because I have like all the Slum Village even the ones with only two of them.
Thank you, it was hard to get it down to my favs, as there were more but these were at the top. I highly recommend The Left, as well as the ones you listed. That Reef album goes hard! The Slum Village album should actually be in there, I was just hoping for more Elzhi, and Baatin's verses were a little disappointing (he's my fav in the group). I'll go back and listen to it, I remember really liking a few tracks. edit - okay re-listening now and I'm liking it even more than when it dropped. Thanks dude, I might not have gone back to it for a while.

I just discovered Curren$y like 2 weeks ago so I'm new to him and his camp. I'll try and find his mixtapes and see if I like him.

I find that a lot of times mixtapes are better than the albums. Most likely due to the record labels having their hand in it and the rappers being able to do whatever they want, and also sample clearance issues. Rhymefest is a good example from this year.... loved his mixtape, was let down with the hugely anticipated El Che.

Yeah it's a shame a lot of artists don't get control of their albums which is why i stay away from so many of the guys on majors or subsidiaries of majors.

On the flip side of that there are guys who release multiple mixtapes a year and they are just complete and utter garbage because of how much of the production is rushed or just released quickly to take advantage of a previously well received release.

A good album is a good album, mixtape or official release but they are few and far between for me lol.

Might have to check out Curren$y with all the talk here. I have heard him on features but never a whole album. Machiventa glad you gave that Slum another chance because they have some bangers on there.

I hate to say this but if you are a Redman fan (I have all of his albums) don't download the mixtape it will make you throw up in your mouth because the beats are terrible and almost every song has auto tunes on it. I am hoping his official album doesn't sound like this.

The mixtape pissed me off and really has me hoping the album is nothing like that fucking turd. I FUCKING HATE AUTO TUNE and it's filled with it, i was digging that Nate Dogg track then at the end BAM fucking AUTO TUNE bullshit. I never expected Redman to every allow the released of such crap.

The appeal of Nate Dogg is that his voice is very different, what the hell is the point of adding autotune, retards. The worst part is that he suffered twos strokes in the past few years and odds are he will never actually make any more music, and they disrespect him with this auto tune bullshit.

Grr

LMAO - I won't even listen to it now

Redman is one of the most disappointing MC's of all time. Went from dope, classic albums to total shit. The thing is he still sounds okay over a dope beat, it's just that it hardly ever happens.

And I just discovered that MED released a mixtape and it BANGS!! (pun intended): Bang Ya Head 3

I'm REALLY liking Kno's album, it's all I've been listening to over the past few days and it's turning out to be one of my favorite albums ever.

Yeah i read that and posted in it, just a bunch of people who don't listen to hip-hop or don't understand how epic that production is and dislike the fact that it's receiving so much mainstream attention. The funniest stuff is the idiots who talk about the genre like "oh i don't agree you can't call jay-z and ghostface albums classic" lol fucking idiots, go back to lady gaga or classical music.

The album is decent, and easily one of the better albums released this year but it wont go down in my favorites of all time as it's just not my style of hip-hop.

all the greats have had similar things said about them. narrow minded people have narrow "vision". I have respect for anybody that changes popular culture, regardless of if I like it or not. and I mean change, not effect. example, Nirvana changed music. Hanson effected music.

I believe the genre is the way it is right now because the record labels need to do something different to maintain control because of how easy it is to maintain high distribution with itunes/amazon digital stores while still completely controlling their own music as artists.

You can spend $5-10k to build a professional quality recording studio with all the technological progress made in the recent past. The main reason hip-hop artists needed a major label was for distribution and for studio time, which both are largely becoming easier to obtain.

Valid points for some reason I'm just fine with how everything is progressing. Nothing seems out of line to me just different day and age. I can tell you one thing there's not as much cyphers but again new day and age.

Also it's the same as the old days you have people that are nice....and people that are wack. There are some said to make real 'hip hop' and some don't.

In which way are you using "cyphers"? I don't quite get your meaning.

Hip-hop is just like any other music to me, i base my conclusions on the quality of the lyrical aspect and production. I will listen to and be a fan of artists who talk about violence and murder if they do it well, and are able to tell a story, but on flip side you have a guy like 50 Cent who will rap about violence and murder but with his down syndrome he isn't capable of actually telling a good story and relies on catchy hooks and competent producers.

I don't get caught up in all the bullshit of who a rapper is or their history or what they did in their personal or public lives, it has no bearing on the final product to me. I think it's a more pure way to enjoy music, i like to know about the artist and my brain is a vault of wikipedia and biographys about artists i like but it doesn't really effect how i take in their music.

Cypher...(standing in a circle rapping -old school- or aka freestyling)

Basically I was saying you don't see that much of it these days, at least not like old times.
