Anyone ever use Sony's Exchange Program?

So I've been having problems with my Walkman, thread here - http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...993#post432993
I did EVERYTHING that the tech support guy told me to do, yet it STILL does it (although now the screen is starting to flash when it buzzes). The guy told me that I qualify for the 'Exchange Program', meaning that I can send in my current Walkman, pay them $29, and they'll send me a refurbished Walkman (that may, or may not be, the exact model of the one that I have)..... Ok. See, and maybe it's just me, but I honestly think it's a little ridiculous that I have to trade in my practically brand new mp3 player for a used, refurbished one, then pay them money on top of that. But whatever.....
So I guess my question is this - Has anyone had any luck with the exchange?
