touchscreen is nice, but i have it on my phone and don't care for it. both have oled, sure the X has a bigger screen, but it is also thicker in size the player that is.

err apart from that, I liked the cleaner design of the A vs the X

definitely the X series. I think that the X series is a better choice because of the lower price. And that fact that it has a bigger screen. But who doesn't want to pay less for a player? Hahaha

because the X is old in a sense already, and I compared the 2 OLED screens, the A-series screen is slightly better. I will think about it, I prefer the A series looks to the X.

The A845 screen is nice, I've tested it, but it has way too overblown contrast to be useful for video - the Cowon S9 has a much better weighted AMOLED screen. I haven't seen the X screen yet.

Maybe you should read the comparison on head-fi where someone tells about A845 and how mucuh more hiss it has.

I have, I am not an audiophile the criticizes everything, the 818 also has hiss, it doesn't bother me. some of the users on head-fi take things a bit too seriously when it comes to players, I just want a good sound and I know the A will deliver. Plus I will be using the standard headphones that come with the player.

the X series is old technology, and it is not worth the money for the 32 gig, touchscreen is fail, I've used it at the store for 15min, and do not like it.

The touchscreen on the X is the best I've ever tried. I would buy another Sony, no question, but would forego the A845, not just because of the hiss mentioned, but also on account of the inferior build mentioned in that review.

I will have to compare both using my own headphones since I can then compare to my 818. everytime I was at the store, I did not have my headphones. So I will be probably going to check both out this weekend or monday.

I see you have already decided to buy the A Series why even ask about the choice here? What is the point of such questions?

I have not decided what to buy yet, since I have not ordered any model from the store, I still have to go to the store and listen to both using my own headphones which I have not had the chance to do so.

the X does come in cheaper per GB than the A series.

Ok I had a chance to listen to both devices carefully and for an extended period of time.

I first tried out the A series, it sounded good, not sure if I heard any hiss the store was not that quiet when I was there, the menu and buttons are nice but a bit tricky to get used to, ie, blind-use will be a tad hard to get used to. The screen is quite nice and the colours are quite vibrant. Sounded good as I said, had to have volume a bit loud, 14 at least, but more 15-16 range which surprised me since I use 11-12 on my 818.

I then decided to move onto the X series. First thing I noticed was the louder soundstage, with volume setting 11-12 being sufficient for me. The touchscreen is quite responsive. In the end it comes down to price and even though the A series is cheaper than the 32gb X, per gig the X comes out cheaper.

so monday i will be ordering the 32gig X from the store.

The A series DEFINETILY (screw the spelling) looks better than the X. The X looks like a (pretty) brick compare to the slim A series.

I don't think you'll regret getting an X - the large screen is really nice, not just for video.

Yea, you definitely (SCREW THE SPELLING AGAIN, i think i spelled it right though) won't go wrong getting the X. Unless you're on a $549 and under price budget
