I know of no way to tell. Once I bought two Fuzes on Woot and one was V1 and the other V2.

I thought that with either the Clip or the Fuze that the 8GB unit did not come out as a V1, but I could be wrong on that. Perhaps someone can confirm.

That's what I thought too....that all the 8GB ones were V2's

Thanks guys! Bit of a bummer for me though XD;......I was fully prepared to buy a refurb 8gb hoping to have a v1 (I'm just particularly a fan of the v1 sound). Is there a difference in sound between the v1 and v2 clips?
