I can't see why you think its funny and depressing. Every serious media player supports these formats...

My take on Maxis' comment: It's funny and depressing that the Zune HD, "serious" audio player that it claims to be, fails to support said formats. I don't consider the choice of words inappropriate...

I guess it depends how you define "serious". If you take a stroll through the reviews for Sansa, Cowon, or Archos players, you'll notice they often manage to fail in fairly basic areas such as the user experience/interface and software support, even for standard features such as podcasts.

If that perfect player existed and was reasonably priced, I'm sure we'd all own one. Unfortunately, it's a bit of give and take. But in the meantime, the Zune HD ain't half bad while we wait to see what's on the horizon.

That's true, it's good to keep a bit of perspective.

Just give me pervasive landscape mode across ALL screens - artist, album, videos, etc. That's probably my biggest request for the device itself.

I will feel VERY ripped off if this is the spring update. I mean sure, I did buy this device for music purposes, and don't really care about apps, but that's it (no bug fixes, speed improvements, etc)? I thought this was supposed to be a "big" update, this doesn't look big at all. Heck I don't use Zune Pass and don't intend to (I don't have the cash to spend $15 a month) and I don't care about video codecs, so for me there would basically be no improvement.... VERY disappointing....

You know what, if this is TRULY all that is in the update (I'm not saying its set in stone) it is terribly disappointing because we have been pointing out MANY things to not only add, but also FIX ever since we got a Zune HD. Dave has defiantly seen some of those comments and if this update doesn't fix anything what does that tell you about their commitment to their consumers? I cannot even count how many requests there have been for a custom EQ (this is a premium media player right?), a simple NOTES APP/EMAIL APP, improvements to the browser (many issues), improvements to wi-fi connection, bug fixes (such as the freezing screen, or the radio not opening when "tapped", or the random shut downs when using Facebook, etc). There is just SO MUCH stuff that could have been added/fixed and wasn't (I'm not saying all, but something could've been fixed) that creates this disappointment.

If there is someone who thinks Microsoft can justify why some of these issues weren't fixed please tell me. Time constraints is a BS response; they have had enough time to fixes some of these issues unless they are unfixable (or they don't care).

To me it feels like the message is " we don't give a s**t on what you think, we'll do what we want to" Seriously we don't want to hear excuses on why something isn't being worked on, we just want it fixed.

Guys, try to calm down...wait until the actual update...it must be close enough...(Microsoft stated that in the next days they will announce the release date for the update). They might have some other features too..

I'm in the same situation...i didn't buy Zune HD for Zune Pass. The only benefit i currently see is in video codecs update...i'm sure that they have "hidden cards"...The update as it is presented now is not major by any means.

I don't know how many times I can say this (maybe people have been missing it) but Dave has said this update will focus on bug fixes (and media enhancements). For crying out loud people the update hasn't even been released yet and you're all bitching like they owe you something beyond fixing bugs. Jesus, be lucky they even put out updates to fix bugs and add functionality.

.....I wonder if any of the Zune HD owners in here "writing of" an update they haven't even seen yet work for the US Government....cause if so, I can see how assessments of Iraq's weapons of mass destructions programs led to the invasion of Iraq

The number of posts here expressing frustration / disgust / etc that are all predicated on "IF....." - when Dave MS hints and initial Yager interviews are showing the update is very close....

JUST hold your bloody posts until the damn thing is released FFS !

If IF if iF If IF if iF If IF if iF If IF if iF If IF if iF .... I bet you all still can't stop saying "Are we there yet?" in the car too LOL

:P

I didn't realize Dave had said that, so that's good news. Still, I love how you and a few others act as if we should be groveling to Microsoft for letting us buy the Zune HD. We have a right to complain if the product doesn't have what we want. Not trying to act like a spoiled brat or anything, but if the update does indeed have just the things mentioned, I will bitch as much as I want because I don't think it's enough after months and months of waiting.

Well multiple news articles were just released concerning the Zune 4.5 update and your telling me we shouldn't talk about it? We here have every right to speculate and go off of what has so far been shown and could be all we get. Tell me what I am supposed to say without using "if" to freely express my ideas.

I too did not realize Dave said there would be bug fixes (but they have said other stuff before and we can see how thats turned out...). I agree with being able to express what I feel about a product I paid $220 dollars for (obviously) and if you don't like reading what I say then don't.

Bitch all you want...would be nice if the bitching was in one thread...perhaps we start a complaint thread to keep it all centred in one area...every single thread regardless of the topic soon gets hijacked on this site now...

Point taken and I agree but it gets very tiring to constantly see people bitching about what they want, what they expect, what they're not getting, etc. - I think I'm still working out this horrible experience I had earlier with someone in my shop. Sorry guys. Carry on!

Please don't repeat this line about luck...its ironic, because i don't feel lucky at all right now. Its their job Machiventa, they have a marketing and development strategy. This has nothing to do with luck.

I feel lucky my HD still runs. I fill lucky it only took them three tries to get the ZO art right. I feel lucky I have other players I can use when the HD is in the doghouse with me. I feel lucky we know someone at MS who actually listens, even if he can't do much other than listen. I feel lucky I woke up this morning. Heck, there doesn't seem to be anything I feel unlucky about today!

Not every feature it tailored for every user. Btw your forgetting (currently unknown) bug fixes and Xvid. I know that I'm going to love both of those.
