First off thanks for taking the time to write the program.
Just got my 280 on Friday and so far I like the unit but playlists are a pain in the A$$. I've used the program to create the lists. I have to convert one at a time. If I do them all at once it creates empty files with just the header. My main problem is that after creating the lists they look great but once the I disconnect the unit and it restarts they list all have the same 5 songs in them. What would be causing that? |

This is a GREAT LITTLE PROGRAM! Thanks so much to the creator (TBAFROMCA) for writing this.
![]() It took me a while but I finally got it to work on my E270R (Rhapsody) version. I have my E270R set to Rhapsody Mode. Rhapsody put my files (my mp3s and the Rhapsody files) in the SYSTEM\MUSIC hidden folder. I created the *.m3u file in Tag & Rename, selecting the Sansa F: disk and having the program find all the music files. I can then select the files from the flat filetree and then have Tag & Rename make the *.m3u for me. I put it in the F:\PLAYLIST directory on the Sansa. I used the m3u2pla program (9/21/2006 version) to create the *.pla file in the same directory (F:PLAYLIST). I then had to use the program TEXTPAD (the Creator is right ... NOTEPAD won't work) to go into the *.pla file to edit it and find/replace the following: ..\SYSTEM\Music\ to change to system\Music\ And then saved the file. For some reason, it has to read all lower case (system), not (SYSTEM). I'm so happy I got it to work!!

Hi! This is an awesome little program that has solved many issues with playlists.
There is only one problem I'm coming across that I wonder if you can help solve with an update. I have special characters within file names, for example, an é in the name Michael Bublé. The m3u playlists I create in winamp come out fine, but when I convert the m3u playlist into a pla file, the output file (checked within notepad) drops the special character and I get a result like: Michael Bubl. So when I launch the playlist within the Sansa, it doesn't recognize the files, and I've even noticed that the Sansa will delete the missing files out of the playlist by itself. I don't recall having this problem a few days ago... I just ran a Windows update, with several .NET updates as well, that may have started the issue, I'm not exactly sure. But if there is a way you can update m3u2pla to accept special characters, it would be awesome! |

I just used this program for the first time this morning. Thanks for releasing this for other people to use. It converted my .m3u from Winamp to .pla quickly, but the time it takes my e280 to load the playlist is slow. I don't think that's the programs fault tho.

I am utterly confused. I downloaded your program, followed your instructions- I think- and am still not getting playlists to show up on my e260. I don't think I have my paths defined correctly. Can you please clarify?

This works VERY well. I created the M3U files via winamp readying directly from the e270 in MSC mode. Opened the playlists folder with you program and BAM...done in less than 5 seconds. This REALLY makes this player stand out. I enjoy it so much I think I'm going to get the 8gb version and sell this to a friend! Excellent work!

I have finally gotten around to using this as well, and it works perfectly. I will create a playlist in Winamp, let that program shuffle my songs, save it, then let this little program do its thing. This works far better than the players on board shuffle.

thanks, This tool is great!
but I live in Europe and we use special characters regularly (é č ŕ î ... ) . When I convert the m3u playlist into a pla file, the output file (checked within notepad) drops the special character. For the moment, i rename the folder, can be in a new version.... |

Spent hours trying to get playlists to work with my E270, and then stumbled across your great convertor program. Thanks for solving my problems!
If only Sandisk were interested enough in all the complaints about this issue. My wife has a Samsung player, which allows users to play all music within a single folder on its drive, and very easy creation of playlists on the fly, or from any decent app that has m3u formats. |

m3u2pla Release Notes
------------------------------------------------------------------------20070107 1.0.2563 Added "New Playlist" button - this is intended for creating new playlists directly on the player without using any other software. Right now it just creates a playlist per folder, and optionally copies the resulting playlist to the \PLAYLISTS folder. A future version will allow file selection from multiple folders, but for now this is good enough to let multiple people dump some songs into their own folder, then easily create a playlist for them. |

I have been trying to do playlist for a while in a simple easy way. I found a perl script that worked with V1 tagging on this site and that got me started on these 3 perl scripts. (the sansa does not like V1 tags) sansa-dir2pla.pl takes a directory of mp3 and or wma files and makes a playlist, sorted on the mp3 V2 tags. sansa-m3u2pla.pl converts a name.m3u file to a pla playlist that works with my E260. Used to make plalists from music on the sansa. sansa-syncm3u2pla.pl creates the pla playlist and copies music over that is not already on the sansa. There are lots of comments so easy to customize and all work well now. Requires perl, MP3::Tag and File::Copy::Recursive from CPAN I also found a perl script to make 16bbp pictures out of the ones The Gimp creates in 24bbp. Perl and linux make the world go round. Gratt
