video from macs to zen help

hey all,
i have been perusing the forums here in search of a free video converter for my creative zen. there seems to be a couple good options, however i am a mac user (and new to it) and all the free downloads i have seen posted only operate with windows. i would prefer to not download windows in addition to other programs needed to get what i want onto my player.
i have xnjb downloaded and can successfully load music, but anytime i got to my data folder to upload movies the mp4's show up as null. the avi's when codec-ed with H.264 will show up but then say the it doesn't support the file when i try to play it on my zen. all it shows me for time is --:--:-- handbrake (older and newest versions) have also not worked for me...
words of help, anyone?
