My clip is bricked

Ok, it started out with me trying to pop it apart...I didnt do so well. In fact I ruined the slider. Heck it still worked with a pen tip, so I dremeled the case open enough so that I could turn it on n off with a finger tip.
It worked well like that for weeks. Then it went into 'broken red wire mode'.
It worked while hooked up to the computer but died instantly when disconnected. Nothing nada zilch.

I succeeded in popping it apart and the red lead looked fine. Wiggling it I eventually broke it, and resoldered it. It still didnt work untethered to the computer.
I read what threads I could, and decided to format it. THAT made it worse.
In this respect, it now will only display the SANSA, and then the little flower logo. It freezes with said logo. I had tried setting it to "hold" and pressing the center button while plugging it in, to no effect.

I imagine its pretty far gone now, having been dremeled and bricked. I did get it off W00T so its not a big $$ loss, but my 6 year old misses it alot..

does this sound like a lost cause?

I will most likely....1 or 2gb is all he needs..I will have to watch out for them.
Wish I knew what I did wrong.
