Default Windows Phone 7 Series Boycott/Petition

-

Hey guys, please go ahead and sign if you agree with the message.
I'll be sending this off to Microsoft once a significant number of people have signed.

http://www.petitionspot.com/petition...esphoneboycott

Petition Message:

Windows Mobile:

Function: Extremely capable OS
Form: Dense, outdated user interface.

Windows Phone 7 Series:

Function: OS crippled by a lack of basic features
Form: Intuitive, modern user interface.

Microsoft has selected form over functionality and that is a decision we can not and will not support with our own monetary funds. Microsoft, you\\\'re decision to neglect basic features such as...

- an open file system accessible to the user

- copy + paste

- true multitasking

- true customization

... has resulted in our collective decision to boycott all
future Windows Phones until the above issues are addressed.

Yeah...I don't see how a boycott is effective in any way here. Those who join the boycott are those who wouldn't be customers anyway. Boycotts are for political issues, not feature sets.

I'm with the others here...While I support the principle (no sacrificing function for form), I find it hard to get behind a web-based petition with grammatical errors. Come Q4, I will be voting with my wallet, though.

Grammatical errors? Can you please be more specific?

As soon as people hear the word petition, they automatically associate the word with the phrase "waste of time."
Yet if I had called this a poll, and put a few different choices up there in my first post, then there would have been a good number of people voting. How is this any different? I would argue that a poll gets less accomplished than a petition does.
This is simply a way of gauging public opinion in an organized fashion and attempting to make that opinion visible to a third party.
What is the point in running a forum, doesn't that seem even more pointless than a petition when you really consider it?
I believe that consumer feedback can serve as a valuable asset for the decisions a company makes. Voting with your wallet is too vague a message, I see that as more of a last resort.

I agree, even if you got the whole abi community onboard I don't think it would make a difference. Besides, I like the new windows phone 7 series while it does sacrifice a lot of functionality it still looks like its going to be a great os that will be coming on some awesome devices. I am kind of bitter because I feel like Microsoft abandoned the ZuneHD community, but I hope once my current phone contract is up and I get a little money together I can get my hands on a sweet wp7 device

Even without the "\\\" in the middle of "you're", the correct word is "your".

Seriously????

Well, 1000 as a target seems a bit light on I reckon - but good luck to you....

I will certainly be looking at a WP7 series mobile when they hit Australia....and keeping my Zune HD (I reckon my wife or son will score that!)

If you are after Form factor and the functionality set you have specified, maybe you should consider other platforms, skins, etc etc. They are all a trade off.

A jack-of-all trades device does nothing to best practice - and compromises on most fronts.

That's life.

This thread makes me smile Thanks for making my day

It's funny that you think you can throw the whole WP7 development progress over just by collecting some names. Do you really think MS will change anything? Do you know what costs are involved in changing that?
Away from that I am all excited about the WP7, so I even don't understand your point. Did you hold a WP7 in your hand? Did you try a real device?

And by the way: What has this to do in the ZuneHD forums? I don't see any relationship to the ZuneHD here...

I completely disagree.....Know why the iPhone was such a big success from the beginning...the UI was flashy and easy to use, even though it lacked a lot of features.....when selling a mobile OS, the developer should not look at features, but at usability....all that matters is that the basic features are available and the UI is easy to use and easy on the eye....
microsoft made a mass market OS with the now WinMo......I'm with MS for this one

Windows Phone 7 is an unfinished product. I don't think Microsoft would leave copy and paste out of it when it is released. Heck, I even think Microsoft won't even leave out true multitasking when it is all said and done. I think Microsoft is is just waiting on the next iPhone 4.0 and Android updates before making any moves. That's one of the reasons they waiting till the holiday. That and to allow developers time to built up the apps. I also believe Microsoft has some surprises up their sleeves but do not want to announce anything now because Apple and Google can copy these. Microsoft's strategy is to play the underdog and come out with swinging with surprises. And no copy and paste or no true multitasking have already made WP7 the underdog in the minds of Apple and Google.

meh, don't buy it. boycott with your bucks.

Personally, I'd glad they did a complete overhaul and reset. I can't completely make a judgement until I have it in my own hands, but the story and explanation regarding people in motion and context fits what they've created. Plus, it can evolve over a few generations as well.

I look forward to seeing what the final product has. For me, Xbox Live and Zune integration is what I've been waiting for so long.

the "\\\" was added after I submitted, it's a flaw in the website. However I admit that I accidentally said you're instead of "your."

Here's an update on the copy and paste function: it will be included. Everyone got worked up over it for nothing. Keep in mind that Windows Phone 7 is not a finished product and expect many more features by the time it is released.
