Why not test a few files and hear for yourself, personally on the go I use 192 vbr.

I would rather have more songs on mine. I have close to 6GB worth on my 4GB fuze. I use 128Kbps. I just have wmp11 set the bitrate of 128 as the "cap". I would rather have 192 but it cuts the song count down drastically. I play it over my car's mediocre speakers anyways most of the time. I only listen to HPs occasionally. I just need some good ones when I get more cash my sony's are getting worse and worse.

If the music sounds good to your ears, then by all means use 128 kbs

It's really up to you.
I have songs of varying bitrates. If it's a good, complex song that I actually want to enjoy listening to then I'll use 192 or even 320 but if it's a silly song (like trololol) or a sh*tty (but catchy) techno/pop song then I won't mind using 128.

+1 on the whole "if it sounds good to you that's enough" concept...
![]() I'm too lazy to re-encode stuff I sync to my players, so whatever my ripped bitrates are for my music in my library is what gets sync'd to the device... I am NOWHERE near what the manufacturers claim for the maximum number of songs on their devices...more like 1/3 to 1/2 of their counts. ![]() And changing out music on my players is as traumatic for me as deciding on shoes/handbags is for my GF...

(i wish the fuze told you more info on your library on the player)
927 songs on my 4GB fuze approx total time->60 hrs average song->5:00 (due to the really long trance remixes i have on it one of the songs is close to 15 min long!) capped bitrate 128 average amount of songs needed transcoded->60% (wma) (i am also using 64 bit WMP11 and it seems to transcode and sync faster then 32 bit versions) |

Personally i change my music so often on my player so i usually use 192/192vbr/320 files, anything lower and i can start to notice the difference. As for transcoding i will NEVER transcode anything unless it's from lossless to mp3 personally. I have transcoded wma files to equal bitrate mp3s because itunes is garbage and i had to use it because of my ipod. My ears could hear the difference between the files and it wasn't a positive one so i stick to FLAC>mp3 transcoding only.

Least useful post in the thread, your preference is one thing but blatant uninformed statements like your first sentence are laughable.

WMA sounds better at 128 for my fuze+heaphones(plus my IEMs sounds really good but I barely use them)
I like having close to 6GB worth of songs on my 4GB player. makes for better long trips. I would love to use 320 or 192, however when I get a larger capacity player I will use them. 4GB was too low for me, however that was all circuit city had and i needed my player for the trip I was taking 2 days after i bought it. I wanted the 8GB fuze (not in stock for the rest of that month). And online it was 30 bucks more and it would take 5 days to get to me since I bought my fuze on a friday. (I wish UPS/fedEx would ship on sat and sun.) I am also anxious to figure out whether I am gonna get more money coming in soon for me to get a new DAP. I might give my fuze to my sister, if I get a cowon player. what player is best for listening to lower bitrate files? (just curious) the sansa fuze (becuase it's allready good DSP) or cowon (because of jetEffects) or anything else? |
