Default folder names show as numbers.

despite naming new folders that i have in my clip+, they only show up as a series of numbers. the names of tracks however do show up.

why is this so?

MTP.

you should use move everything from MTP to your computer and then use MSC with the Clip+ and see if it still does that.

When the clip is behaving as the original clip, the folder names are ignored and the id tag for the album field is used for album name, as is filename.
If the album field is blank, the clip throws everything into a folder named 'unknown'. You need to check what is in the album field.
The clip+ has an option to use window's names for a folder view.
You can do a search on ID tags. Get yourself a copy of mp3tag (it's a freebie) and take a look at what you've got to get a better understanding and/or to set these fields.

EXACTLY!!! And that appears to be what the original poster is complaining about. The ID3 tags can be non-existent or crap and folder view should still be perfect. Apparently they are not, And this is at least the third poster complaining about numbers appearing 'magically' in folder names.

That's true, my response above was specific to the question quoted, but I do agree with you. It's prossible that he had it in auto select or some stuff was loaded via mtp and that could cause issues. I'd recommend a format, make sure it's in msc mode and file/folder selected and reload tunes.
