Thanks for the heads up. Hope this version is less scary for 32GB S9 owners than the last one.

Maybe it's only for the stock UI. I'm using Claw's UI and didn't notice any difference regarding album art. Not that it was bad looking to begin with. For awful album art you have to see the O2 in comparison...

Thanks for the head up - lots of Vorbis fixes, so I'll update my S9 today.

EDIT: So far, so good. I don't see any AA differences, but I'm using a different UCI so I expected that. Only time will tell for overall usability.

I actually own a 32Gb S9 bought from the UK...no issues with this 2.52 or even the previous 2.51 firmware....

I just like to follow my own "Firmware Upgrade" routine....

*** ALWAYS BEST TO YOU HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS ***

1. Download and extract the Firmware 2.52 which contains 3 files...to the directory of your choice.

2. Backup all files/music you require and obviously keep a note your own "Custom EQ settings"

3. Go to "My Computer"...right click the "Cowon S9" drive and format via FAT32 and do NOT tick "quick format"

4. Back now to step 1...and copy all those 3 files and paste them directly onto the newly formatted and now "clean" S9

5. After the copying has completed...just wait another 10 Sec (just to ensure all is correctly copied....and so you can disconnect the S9 safely)

6. Once you have disconnected the S9 from the PC...Turn it on and wait for the magic to happen...the 3 files (Firmware/Fonts/Resources) will be copied over.

7. Finally...turn it on again and enjoy.

Ohhhh and me....i'm more for the sound of this beautiful player rather than the video (which i gotta say is awsome!) and the usual files i use are FLAC & MP3's so the upgrade may make no real difference....BUT...I'd rather be up to date...and get the best out of it!

Personally...i hope there "may" be some room for improvement to the actual sound of this fantastic player...and obviously
"yes" i think it already sounds incredible...but...i'm never really gonna say "NO" to a little bit more sonic beauty for free!

Interesting this caution has been placed on so called Firmware Points...I wonder what the difference is between new and Older S9 players?

Warning/CautionIf you purchased COWON S9 after March 2010, install firmware version X.52 or higher only. Downgrading firmware to lower than X.52 may cause damage to your COWON S9.

Personally i recon its just to stop some people from "Bricking" and then sending back their S9's with the older and problematic previous 2.51 upgrade...hmmmmmm

Chadz....

That's essentially what you do when you have problems: Format, reinstall.

About the album art again, I'm using claw too, but I thought that the scaling of images was a universal thing, that cowon does for developers. I'll have to try the ofw and see.

Installed 2.52

- Improved album art quality is noticeable - more detail/ vivid.
- The fonts on home screen 1 - (10 icons) have gone backwards - not as clear, hard to read!
- Everything else the same.

Default ogg?

Anyone else notice the device not reading tags on ogg files that are added to the device after upgrading to 2.52 i.e. still reads tags of any added before 2.52.

Just downgraded to 2.51 and tags aren't fixed, as I hoped.
Anyone got suggestions?

Unfortunately, no. I haven't downgraded to 2.51 but I tried reformatting my 2.52 player (in the hopes that there's some DB bug that required it to be wiped). No dice - even on a clean player, it's not working. I don't plan to downgrade because I use physical folders most of the time, anyway. But it is a little annoying.

EDIT: One silver lining to all this - at least it cuts down on the refresh time. I just added 600 Vorbis files to the player and restarted... took no longer to start up than it normally would. I believe a change like this would have hung up the player for at least a minute or two.

I just got an S9 and found the OGG tag issue. I keep my CD collection as FLAC files ready to convert to any other format. I had converted them all to OGG, but now I see that the S9 is so problematic with OGG files, is MP3 the safest alternative?

OGG support was high on the list of reasons I chose the S9, so I'm quite disappointed to discover this thread after my purchase. The number of "still" comments doesn't make me feel very confident in my purchase.

Guess I should repost the download link for the 2.51 firmware here as well: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/21335522/S9_2.51.zip

Happy downgrading, hope it fixes the issues people seem to have with Vorbis.

I have the 32GB model, and since I read about bricking and that Cowon recommend not using firmware versions below 2.52 for recent devices, I might stick to MP3 until 2.53.

Ouch, seems to be a lose-lose situation - at least for people with Vorbis audio.
