Smile Hi folks...interested in your thoughts on Maximo iM590 IEMs...

Hey all:

Am relatively new here to the excellent abi forums/site. Mostly been hanging out in the Sony section as I have recently acquired an E345 - sadly, I have not hung around on other forums at abi as much as I should have. My bad! [Well, except for lurking a bit in the Creative forums as I have 3 players from them].

Am guilty of a recent faux pas though: I posted a link to an [IMO] amazing IEM review/roundup I found at HeadFi but posted it as an FYI in the Sony forum instead of in the proper place - thanks to the mods for pointing out my error and moving it to the right place [here]!

Anyway, a mod also informed me that in the past here at abi, there have been "shills" for Maximo lobbying for their products. I must admit to being very surprised by this - I am a new and extremely happy owner of a pair of iM590s. Due to a small cosmetic defect, I have been corresponding with Maximo customer service - not only have they been amazingly helpful but they are sending me a new pair via a virtual RMA [I simply take a picture of the defective headphones with their cables cut]. So I don't have to trouble with sending anything back to them and as a bonus, I get to keep the excellent accessory package to boot - some of the best customer service I have experienced recently. Also, it seems that a senior person at Maximo is an active and seemingly well-regarded participant at Head-fi and this also contributes to my surprise at the accusations of Maximo using shills here at abi.

I chose the Maximo's based on all the generally strong reviews I found online, especially from Head-fi, but also from a variety of sources. While not an audiophile or headphone expert by any means, I am a closet musician and I like to think I have somewhat discriminating ears. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive pair of quality IEMs that would offer an overall balanced sound experience [I was upgrading from Senn CX300 which I always thought were decent and a fine value for the money]. The price for the Maximo's was spot on, the included accessories looked excellent and it seemed like the iM590s, for me, were a good choice. Again, so far, I am delighted.

So now I am very curious to hear what folks think about the iM590s here at abi. I did a search of the forums and the last real mention of Maximo IEMs dated all the way back to March 2009 - again I am now curious to hear what other folks think about these a year later.

I must confess to being mostly ignorant about how many folks really are amazingly expert with regards to IEMs and headphones in general - the reviews of headphones here, at Head-fi and other sites are amazingly detailed and generally as objective as possible. So nice to see such a healthy enthusiast group with so many useful observations!

Of course, I realize that headphone selection and preferences are extremely subjective personal choices. But because it appears that no one has discussed the i590s recently here at abi I am now obviously interested in other user feedback/experiences with Maximo.

Anyway, I look forward to any responses - abi is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to while away time [and also, to learn stuff from some great, knowledgeable folks!].

cheers

I read a lots of posts regarding them when I occasionally snoop around head-fi, but they haven't really interested me and the fact that there are a lot of "shills" makes me question whether they are good or not. Besides, I would much rather get the more popular RE0s or Hippo VBs and not worry about the quality of my purchase. That said, I'm also allergic to iAnything with the exception of Cowon products.

The generally miserable attitude in your 68 posts here is staggering, as well.

One example would be your attitude in the "Do You Need A Tablet?" thread. That pretty much makes the case, right there.

I'm sorry you didn't like my comments!

I don't think this thread is about me, really? I think it's about how awesome Maximo IEMs are! But attention is nice, and you've put me in a good mood.

I'm off to start a "Bunnies R Funderful" thread now.

JonathanC:

Not sure what I have done to attract your ire, but for the record:

- This thread is NOT about "how awesome Maximo IEMs are".

- This thread is about how awesome _I_ feel the Maximo IEMs are from MY experience thus far;

- This thread was seeking other people's opinions on the product, in what I consider an honest, friendly manner.

cheers,
-lestatar

I apologize for the distraction, lestatar. I am going to sit back now and hopefully learn a lot about about this very interesting product.

Hey thanks for responding. Too late for me now, but you are among many folks who feel positive about the RE0s so next time will definitely look more closely at them.

Not familiar with the Hippos you mention [I am new to the world of decent IEMs] but will check them out.

cheers!

Only on-ear or around-ear....childhood ear issues left my eardrums very sensitive to pressure....so I can't use anything that seals....and basic earbuds, like come with our Sony players, just won't stay put.....they fall out. So I have a bunch of over-the-head models, and the KSC75 clip-ons.

Hey DarkSide, how are you?

2 things:

- Finally noticed you're a fellow New Yorker in QV - getting ready for another [hopefully] final round of snow?

- And yes, Marvin, also a fellow NYer is great - he is [and you as well] very friendly and always helpful with a terrific droll sense of humour! He's also my personal hero on this apparently oh-so-offensive thread...

Thanks to Marvin and others I have boned up a bit on the Hippos. They certainly have gotten good audio reviews and aesthetically look great [better IMO than my i590s].

While too late for me right now, maybe in a few months I can come up with a clever rationalization and buy a pair of Hippos. My only reservation about the Hippo VBs might be the reported slight bass bias - again, not an expert, but I prefer what I consider a generally balanced sound, tight, responsive bass [not too boomy], a broad mid-range sound spectrum and sharp but not piercing highs. My musical tastes are all over the map so I feel like good tonal balance is what I would enjoy most.

Also, since you're in NYC...

Do you know any retailers with friendly "try-before-you-buy" policies? With SO MANY [good] headphones to choose from, it seems vital [especially at higher price points] to check them out first and do side-by-side in-store comparisons. J&R has a decent selection and are friendly, but like most places I have found in NYC, generally do not encourage people to try stuff like IEMs in the store [for obvious sanitary and opening product reasons].

cheers and thanks for the vote on the Hippos,
-lestatar
