Headphone & IEM Hygiene, Cleaning

My Sennheiser CX 500 headphones have become clogged up with ear wax dispite cleaning my ears regularly. I am having trouble cleaning the headphones, are therre any tips on cleaning them?

This how I clean my Senn ear buds with the mesh. Murine ear wax removal system. Dip the tip in the solution for 5 minute, then use a vacuum cleaner to suck all the crap out. Works like a charm. The solution break up all the ear wax and the vacuum gets the mesh squeaky clean. And when your done give your ears a good cleaning with the system also. I do the above once every 2 months or so. Never have build up doing so.

Sorry If this topic is a little irrelevant, but I would really like to know how people deal with their in ear phones hygiene in their every day life... I'm very careful and I try not to touch the rubber/silicon tips...especially when I am in a bus or inside a train. Also, I always carry a cloth to wipe the dead skin and wax when i take them off and always clean them with a small amount of alcohol when i get home...

I just wipe them off. Im not too anal about touching them.

Just use some isopropyl alcohol ~90%. It makes it easier if you use a q-tip. I clean mine every couple weeks. Also obviously, if you don't want wax to get on them, just keep your ears clean.

My reply is here, I also carry a cloth at times, good idea for you bring this up. I also like to clean my ears before use to minimize getting wax in/on IEMs/customs.

i use alcohol prep pads from the hospital (my mom works there) to wipe them every few days.

Ditto. I buy boxes of 100, usually to clean my pool shafts after playing. But they seem OK for my tips as well [when I remember to do it].

Not sure if the alcohol will be bad for the silicon, but so far, no visual evidence of problems that I have noticed.

My earbuds did once make it through an accidental trip of the washing machine, but I don't really recommend you try that. :P

Just got some interesting cleaning tools at the audiologist today, they seem to work good for deep tube cleaning.

Walkgood, how much for the one with the brush and the long pointy thing. I'd be interested in one of those if they work good. My ES3X don't like my work environment.

Every time I stop in she gives me something free of charge, I also found out that she deep cleans customs which I'm going to take mine in as the price is free. Guess it’s good for business, referrals and good will toward existing customers.
