Default Zune HD Generation 2 - Wishlist - What's your dream device?

Some may say that it is too soon for a new device, others may disagree. Either way, this is not the place to debate.
Eventually, sooner or later, we are going to get another device. The question is, what do you want that next device to be?
What features are you hoping for?

Here's my list:

Processor: Tegra 2 (it's only logical)

Display: OLED
(hopefully an improved one like Samsung's new Super oled. No screen flicker problems this time)

Also, a much smaller screen bezel, we don't need a picture framed device.

Audio: Superb audio quality, better than Zune HD
(Don't forget this is a media player.)

OS: Windows Phone 7

Transfer Protocol: Zune integration with the Zune Desktop Software coupled with drag/drop capability.

If, for some reason, drag and drop is completely out of the question, (not sure why it would be), then provide an extremely low CPU intensive transfer utility seperate from the full Zune Desktop software.

If I buy a CD and go to a friend's house, I want to be able to get that music on my Zune without having to set up and install the full Zune Desktop program on his/her computer.

Hardware buttons: A volume rocker, bing search button, home key, and back button.

Don't remove any features of the Zune HD!

Edit: I just realized that it was somewhat hypocritical, actually very hypocritical , of me to make this thread after claiming the death of Zune hardware. Allow me to explain. I believe that if the Zune hardware continues in it's current lacking state than it has no future. However, if it does adopt the new Windows Phone OS, than it can have a future. I still think it would make more sense for Microsoft to discontinue Zune hardware and instead, allow for other vendors to build hardware, but it does not look like Microsoft is planning to go down that path.

So... you want a Windows Phone, without the phone part?
I think they should just keep the UI that the ZuneHD already has for the 2nd generation.

I second that. Between the 2 UIs I much prefer the ZuneHD UI for a media player. The only thing that might be be kind of cool is if Apps had its own 'page' like pins/history/recent has or something sort of 3rd 'page'.

Go to 64gb, and put that custom EQ in there (I'll never get another Zune till it FINALLY gets a custom EQ,and yeah - I'm still whining about it!!!!!!!!), and I'll come back home to the Zune.

Fix connectivity issues.......
I also hope that MS releases a cheaper "Upgrade" option for current Zune HD owners who want to upgrade to the 2nd generation.

Here's my list of what needs to be added to the Zune...as to a Zune 2:

-32GB, 64GB, 128GB sizes
-800x480 screen, with reduced flicker
-Tegra 2
-landscape modes for all screens
-more apps, including all the productivity apps from WinPhone 7.
-'books' high-level menu item with submenus for e-books and audiobooks
-an analog to cover-flow for landscape mode
-GPS chip
-camera with flash
-speaker
-bing app from Windows Phone 7
-browser from Windows Phone 7 - that thing looks great!
-power button, media button, and back, home, and search buttons on the body.
-integrate facebook/twitter/winlive like on WinPhone 7

I would say leave the Zune menus as they are, but reorder: music, video, pictures, podcasts, books, then everything else.

By default, include the following apps: calendar, contacts, bing, facebook, twitter, calculator, weather, movie times, flight times, stocks, youtube, chat, windows live, sudoku, kenken, RSS Reader

My biggest requests would be the larger screen, larger memory, landscape mode, and more apps.

Are you ready to pay 400 bucks for a PMP. Sorry, but i won't be yours...

- 16Gb , 32 Gb, 64 Gb models
- Worldwide product
- Equalizer (presets + custom)
- Regarding the audio part, I would suggest to change earbuds for a good product (Koss, AKG, Sennheiser)
- Improvements on the web browser

I'm being realistic. Here's what I would want changed on my current Zune that I feel MS could realistically implement.

-external speaker (for video content)
-get rid of the damn screen flicker
-more competent wifi connectivity
-.flac support

Obviously, MSC/MTP won't happen. The funny thing is that if the Zune HD supported that, it would probably be the best touch-screen PMP out today. It's an amazing piece of hardware that is limited by the software.

"Best touch screen PMP"? Far from it! It's all in the eye of the beholder...

It still would lack extremely in the "serious" audio and video department, it's so eye-wateringly basic in its functions and features that it almost hurts. Sure, pretty UI and games and wifi and all - but what's with video subtitles, with a real EQ, and all that? One the one side it tries to do everything, on the other side it's seriously dumbed down.

It sure might be "the best" for some people, but definitely not for everybody.

- Tegra 2
- Speaker
- Microphone
- New Audio Formats (FLAC in particular)
- Larger Capacity
- Better Battery Life
- Better Wifi

GPS Chip sounds nice but I read an article recently about increased solar flare activity over the next several years will make it difficult to acquire GPS signals...

Im surprised nobody else yet has mentioned a Mic with a speaker and mic you would be able to do VOIP calls with the appropriate software.

x2. I'm sure MS is planning all these, as I write this.

I agree that it would be in the eye of the beholder. In my eyes, an MSC/MTP Zune HD would be be better than any existing PMP. What else is comparable to it? The Cowon S9 (which lacks wifi, a browser, and apps), and the Ipod Touch (which is just as locked down as the Zune HD). Remove the locked down aspects of either the Touch or Zune HD, and you have a winner. It's not as good at pure audio and video as the S9, but the extra functionality makes them better for my needs.

If we're going strictly on audio/video, then yes, the S9 kills it. So like you said, eye of the beholder, because we all have different criteria.

That's for firmware updates to the existing model. This thread is for hardware changes to the next revision.

Well said...and why I've never been compelled to purchase one. It's pretty clear Microsoft is targeting a very different demographic with this thing, which is a shame because it has a certain superficial appeal (and the innards to make it a much better media player)...

For the next iteration, in addition to an external speaker, microphone, Tegra 2 processor, better web browser, complete Wi-Fi support, and instant compatibility with Windows Phone 7 Series apps, I want:

-A custom graphic EQ
-Full mutliple on-the-fly playlist support, including the ability to create, edit (add songs to, remove songs from, and rearrange songs within), save, rename, and delete any number of on-the-fly playlists at any given time.

As long as the software is compatible with the current zune hd (sort of like the iphone firmware, which can be run on 1st gens) anything is fine.

MS has followed the path of the Touch with their HD. Using that as my guide, the next version should have a speaker (for game beeps and boops) and external volume controls. Version 3 should get bluetooth for headphones.
