Default Zune HD Prices Slashed

For all those looking to buy a new Zune HD, this might help you make your decision easier. Zune HD prices have been cut down by about 20 dollars, and opportunistic providers have taken the cut as a chance to bring prices down even further than the norm.

Those price cuts also happen to follow the normal change in memory prices. I think it might be Intel/Micron that recently came out with a reliable 25nm chip process. We'll see large capacities in the same old sizes, and smaller chip sizes for existing capacities. It should be no challenge to put 64gb in a microSD package now, and stick a TeraByte of flash memory in a 1.8" SSD.

It also makes room for a 64gb Zune HD to take the $329-$349ish spot.

Yeah I'm hoping for a 2nd gen with a speaker and 64GB. If a 64 model doesn't come by Christmas then I'll consider the 32GB especially since they've dropped the price now. Until then I'm perfectly content with my 80.

A 64gb Z:HD would be sweet, and I hope a custom EQ comes w/it.

Actually, I've seen it discounted $40 for the 32gb Z:HD, so that's not too bad.

No, if it's $249 now, it was $289 originally.

... why don't some people equate time with money, I'll never understand. Sarcasm or not, some people really do act this way.

25nm for nand wont be avalible untill later this year . Intel and micron joint produced it. IT will finish coming off the line in q2 of the year but wont make it into devices till later on.

This is mabye capacity increases on 4xnm ram as devices like ssd's and speed intensive devices are moving to 32nm nand that became avalible in limit quaintys last holiday.

As devices stop using the older nand it becomes cheaper as there is less demand but teh same capacity to create it as before. Allowing it to be used in cheaper devices.

THe main benfits of 22nm nand is that you can fit moer in the same space.8GB nand will now fit on a 187mm2 die size. Which is almost half the size of the 32nm verison. Basicly double the desntiy.

If you read my post and the original article, it notes that third party providers will take liberties with the cut.

If Microsoft did that, they would be committing suicide. Tons of people would hate them for abandoning their first generation buyers so quickly.

Personally, when the price is reasonable, I see that 64gb Z:HD coming. Now, too expensive.
