What are the advantages/disadvantages between selecting one of the three regions United States/Europe/Rest of the World?

Euro has a mandatory volume restricter; the others don't.

i've choosen euro region this morning (bought clip+ yesterday!), updated the firmware, but i think the volume is tooooo low..
how can i change to other places of the world?

Reinstall the firmware again.

I don't think you have to reinstall the firmware b/c after updating I reset to factory settings several times and each time I had to pick a region.

You might also be able to just go into "volume" in the system setting and choose "high", instead of the "normal" option. If the "high" option is not available, then try resting to factory setting. If that does not work, then I guest reinstall the firmware?

P.S. I think the firmware upgrade might have changed the recharge status animation. Before the upgrade at the beginning of a full recharge, the battery animation would increase from the very right to the very left, then reset in a loop. Then as the battery was recharged more and more the animation would increase starting from the half charge mark to the very left and re-loop. Once the battery was fully recharged, the animation would revert to increasing from the very left.

Since the upgrade, when the full recharge completes, the animation stops, and just shows the battery bar fully filled up.

I just purchased a Clip+ and have firmware V.01.01.05A. On the Sansa forum someone implied that once you upgrade the firmware you can't go back. If so, what would be the best firmware to upgrade to? I'm a little weary of downloading the latest, much like putting a MS OS patch on the first day it comes out? Can someone allay my fear?

There is only this one firmware update out yet. And there's probably no reason you would want to go back to the older one.

Anyways, you can't go back to 1.01.05 because it was the initial firmware for the Clip+, it wasn't available for download, it only came preinstalled. For future firmware updates you should be able to roll back to older ones, just like with the older Clip players.

FW 01.02.09 seems to have improved the battery charge/indicator problem, but only after a reset after updating FW.

Sansa Clip+ Firmware 01.02.13 Release Notes

This firmware has several bug fixes and enhancements, as listed below. Upon completion of firmware upgrade, the device will turn off. Power on device to complete the upgrade process. If device does not initiate or complete, press & hold the Power switch for 10 seconds to reset the device and then release and press again to restart.

Enhancements:

• Enhancement for gapless playback with LAME encoded MP3
• FM volume is reduced at lower volume level
• Russian language translation updates

Bugs Fixed:
· Device restarts/freezes after changing backlight to 10 sec
· Device hangs playing certain FLAC contents

KnownIssues:
· Refresh database progress bar doesn't scale with time
· FM signal is weakened during FM recording
· Powering off device is not available during Locked state

· Some language strings are in English

On a different note, I like how a grand total of 5 bug fixes/enhancements qualifies as "several" to SanDisk (especially in combination with 4 known issues)...

So, 5 would appear to qualify as several.

I guess you won't agree with me when I say that I am quite pleased that Sandisk is 1) updating the firmware, and 2) listing Known Issues. Much better than other manufactuerrs (not just in the mp3 player world).

Also I am quite interested in how they enhanced lame mp3s. That same dictionary gives "Weak and ineffectual; unsatisfactory" as a meaning for lame.

By the letter, yes, you're right: "several" is an acceptable identifier.

Why wouldn't I agree with you? I always welcome firmware updates. The only thing that irks me about the "known issues" thing is SanDisk's history of acknowledging and then not fixing many of them. It's as though being aware of the problem is enough to move on from it. But whatever, "limited resources," "other priorities," "value-oriented product positioning," yadda yadda yadda...

At least the firmware updates are useful and seem to be covering known issues and customer comments for the clip, i don't personally care if sandisk has been stingy in the past on FW releases as long as they are supporting their current players well.

Sansa, please fix the "can't rewind back into the proceeding track" thing. You had it right with V1 and V2 Clips. Its needed on audiobooks especially.

Well...gapless almost! slight blip between songs when I listened to Dark Side of the Moon (Lame encoded MP3s). Rockbox smokes it IMHO!

Why doesn't sandisk embrace Rockbox is what baffles me?. It's a win win for everybody.
