Any idea what improvements or fixes were included? I can't find any info about 1.40 on iriver global or USA sites. iriver Firmware Updater claims my P7 with 1.28 is up to date.

Not sure what's been improved or fixed yet.
I didn't use the firmware updater to upgrade. I was putting music on the p7 using the iriver plus 3 program and it indicated that an update was available. |

Has anybody noticed crackling during audio playback with this f/w when the display dims?

Havent installed yet, any word on the actual fixes? Wonder if it increases the ID3 limit from 2000?

I can't get either app to find or install it as well. Do they limit to just a few countries?

update - read on a russian forum that 1.40 is faulty causes crackling. They managed to roll back firmware manually , babelfish made understanding process tricky though.
Link below http://player.ru/showthread.php?p=583147 Maybe iriver have pulled it, hope so. |

Yeah, I strongly recommend not to install this 1.40.
Actually you pointed to my message on player.ru I successfully managed to rollback to 1.37 - previously saved from the unveiled hidden partition, (unhidden by placing a file called rkusb.tag to the root of the player main memory and restarting). I guess, unhiding the partition and overwriting the new f/w files with old ones may help. Apart from crackling, it also causes the screen not to react to touches after it got turned off after timeout and then unlocked. This behavior was noticed when the EQ was set to normal. Other EQ modes do not cause this. BTW, google translation is much better. Last edited by Dennis Hawks; 12-28-2009 at 03:06 PM. |

Welcome.
you may also try to use an empty file called RKLDSET.FLW instead of rkusb.tag to unhide the hidden partition (just create an empty txt-file in the root of the main memory of the player and rename it, make sure your system setup shows file extensions for known file types). I have not tried this file myself, but I guess it should work for any RK27xx-based player. For the bricked player you actually need to use another procedure, described in details here: http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/viewt...hp?f=43&t=8488 Actually you may also need the .hex-file, which the program needs to use, but it should be renamed to .rkw. Get it from here http://nyaochi..sakura..ne..jp/iriverupdate/ - remove double dots. As far as the actual firmware files (1.37) are concerned - you may get them from here: http://files.myopera.com/Dennis_Hawk...20-%201.37.rar Unpack and copy them to the partition you get after following the procedure. You will also have another unformatted partition - just format it as FAT32. Last edited by Dennis Hawks; 12-29-2009 at 04:37 AM. |

My Plus 3 finally found an update for my P7: 1.37. Looks like for the U.S. they are one version behind. I couldn't get 1.37 until yesterday.

Well updating my pk7 from V1.15 to 1.40.. Dear god i noticed alot of difference.
especially with just the touch screen interface.. its.... responsive now (zomg!) I have had this thing since about Sept. I'll have to say.. i really hated this thing.. and actually went back to my Samsung P2.. Well tonight i was actualy just about to list this thing on ebay to get rid of it with the half assed charging cradle. Well i guess ill have to say for the longest time i couldnt update the damn thing because iRiver software wouldnt work on my pc. Whatever. Anyway since updating the damned thing ive really changed my mind about it. Ive been running this for about 4 hours just toying around with it and i haven't really had any issues with it so far. Oh i also noticed that.... when you turn it up to the highest volume settings its actually pretty damn loud. love it. |

Glad you like 1.40, can you try something for me to test something?
Play a song and watch the screen , when the screen goes off do you hear any distortion or crackling? Some are reporting it , some are not. |

Do you have your EQ on? 'cos this "effect" appears when it's off.

Thanks Dennis! I just upgraded mine to v1.40 and had the problems you mentioned. Thanks a bunch! The options menu is a sluggish as well, but still a pretty sweet player.
