Help How to Change Firmware Region

I know there are already threads on this but it's been a long time and it is confusing. I have a P3 now and I gave my P2 to my mother. However, it makes this weird sound that someone told me can be fixed by getting the new firmware. Well, my problem is this:

I changed the firmware region to Korean to get the Dictionary. However, my mother doesn't want all that on there and just wants the weird noise to stop so I tried to do a firmware upgrade. However, it would not let me because of the region. Therefore, how do I undo the firmware region settings and make it "American" again (I bought it from Best Buy)?

Edit: Never mind. Trying to figure out how to delete this thread now.
Edit: Scratch that. I need help.

what version qre you currently at? 5.10 is the version that fixes the flanging effect. It doesn't matter what region you are set all as all FW files are the same for every region.

What do you mean it doesn't let you? So you put the unzipped .rom and .rsc files onto the root of your player and unplugged and restarted? What happens exactly?

I'll do what you said to do but when I go to System, it still has the old firmware listed. It doesn't update.

If you put the player into UMS mode you don't want to put the files in system, you want them in the root of the drive, which would be the folder above the system folder. Put it the folder that also contains Music, Pictures, and System but not actually in either of those folders.

Okay, I'll try that and see what happens.
