I have a Sansa Clip+, but am dissatified with the battery life, although it is a great player. I want music on my next player and also want to download sermon messages in MP3 format from my churches website. I want to keep them separate. Can I do that on the new Sony E Series players or do I need a player with podcast support, although the sermons aren't podcasts. If I could, I would purchase the new X Series eventhough they are pricey, but they do have podcast support. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just a comment, the Sony E (for Economy) series tends to get poorer reviews.
Plus if you already have a Clip+, why do you say "first mp3 player"? If your only complaint is the battery, how about a Sansa Fuze. Music in the internal memory, and sermons on the micro sd card. Then use folder browsing to choose which to play. Steve |

I listen to many lectures I dowload. Religious lectures are often at a low bitrate, perhaps 16 or 24 kbps. Many Sony players don't support files under 32 kbps. Also many of the Sony players don't have bookmarking. The Clip+ and the Fuze are about the best players you will find for podcasts, except perhaps some recorders(I am thinking about buying an Olympus DM420 for use as a podcast player). The one thing that mp3 players don't provide is variable speed playback with pitch correction. The Olympus DM420 seems to have this, as well as settings to clean up the sound of noisy recordings. Many of the lectures I listen to are old and noisy recordings that were originally done on tape. Many speakers speak slowly, and I like to listen to them at around 1.5x normal on my pc. I want to do this on a portable player.
If the only problem you have with the Clip+ is the battery life, you could get this to recharge the Clip+ on the go. http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-Insta...9908256&sr=8-1 Last edited by JK98; 12-04-2009 at 09:23 AM. |

There is an issue with playing podcasts in folder mode on the Clip+ or Fuze, if the player is also used to play music.

Thanks steve. I don't know why I said "first mp3 player". I tend to be an "Airhead" sometimes. I'll try to do what you suggested. Thanks for the advise. Mike

Thanks for the advise JK. I have had a Olympus dm 520 and it does have settings to clean up noise, but I don't think it worked that well. Maybe there is better software out there that can help. I wish I could give you better advise. I'm still a newbie when it comes to technology. I'm still learning to use my computer.

How is the variable speed playback on the DM520? Are you happy with it? It seems to get 57 hours of play time(or at least the DM420 gets this) on 2 AAA nimh batteries. Why not use the DM520 as a player? It seems like it might be great as a podcast player.
