I'm having a lot of trouble transferring music, as the title says. I used to be an iPod whore so I'm having trouble with this seemingly more complex player.
Could somebody simply direct me so I can have the music and album art organised on my S9? Any help would be really appreciated, thank you. |

many of us use mediamonkey to sort our music and also get album art
mp3tag is an alternative for album art and to put music on, its simply drag and drop into the music folder on the s9 |

I got Media Monkey but am not too familiar with it. How do I get music on it?

It's a different mindset, so you just need to get used to it.
The Cowon has two transfer modes - MTP or MSC (look in Settings > System > USB Mode). MTP allows you to sync the player using tools like Media Monkey or Windows Media Player - this is similar to how you used to sync with iPods. MSC turns the player into a USB storage device - this allows you to just drag and drop your music onto the player, with no software sync needed. I manually create all my album art, so I can't really comment on mp3tag. If you've come from an iTunes "let me control your music database for you" background, you might be more familiar with how MTP mode works instead of using MSC mode. But I would recommend testing both to see which suites you best.

Thanks for your replies so far.
Do I need to do any conversions? I have all my music on cds... I'm very ignorant on the subject. |

You have to check the Track# tags. If they're like this: 1/11, you're doing it wrong.
It should just be 1.

or even better something like this:
01 - name 02 - name 03 - name .... 09 - name 10 - name 11 - name I am assuming you are using windows: You have stated that all the music you have, you have on (audio, not mp3) CDs Then first of all you have to rip them onto your computer using something like "CDex" or the windows media player (WMP) or any other program that can rip CDs into mp3 files (onto your computer) Using MSC mode you then just copy those mp3-files and drag them into the folder namend "music" on your Cowon S9 you should also read this article: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi...tag-basics.php and this article: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi...at-roundup.php |

Your question is pretty general and has nothing to do with the S9. Simply search the web or this site for MediaMonkey instructions.

I'll give a better answer using MM since it was recommended by this thread.
With the album selected. Go to the pane with the song. You should see track numbers next to the titles. If you don't, your tags are missing this data. Easiest way to correct is to select a song in that pane and hit [Ctrl] +A to select all the songs. Then from the dropdown menu click Tools and use one of the AutoTag picks or Get Album Info from Freedb. The autotags will try to update the art and Freedb doesn't. I generally don't like the AutoTag pics so I usually use Freedb so I don't have to delete the file. Also Freedb is usually faster because graphics aren't downloaded. You could also use Mp3tag, it has a feature that will renumber the files without going through a download process. |

Personally I find Winamp and Mp3tag have easier (less cluttered) interfaces than MediaMonkey. Winamp seems to bug up when reading IDv3 tags from the S9 though.

Rip your music with dbpoweramp and just drag and drop. I am starting to sound like a dbpoweramp rep. |
