My 16gb Cowon S9 started to come up with the "No Resources; No Font" screen so I decided to try formatting it with the recommended Panasonic Format Tool but accidently canceled it mid-format. My S9 now only reports about 7.57gb on windows, in gparted and in it's own os. I have tried re-installing firware 3.41 and reformatting a number of times, none seem to work. Any ideas?

I hope it is not the case that one of the memory modules inside broke :S

Can you run the format tool again?

You really shouldn't run this format at all. But now that you have you go ahead and see if you can do it again like Scowl said. I did it because I wanted to get every little bit of transfer speed out of my player and now it crashes every so often and I have to reload my music. No es bueno... It's certainly wrecked much of my experience with the S9.

Why shouldn't you format your S9? Formatted it from Linux after it stopped freeing space and it's worked flawlessly ever since. Just copy the firmware files and copy them back afterwards.

Yeah... But the panasonic format tool is an SD formatter. One would think that that may have adverse effects on built in flash memory.

The SD Formatter is fool-proof though. Many players have SD-standard compatible memories, and the app recognizes them. If a player doesn't have SD-conform memory (like my X5 or O2), it refuses to format them.

I have tried reformatting with the tool a number of times and it consistently shows up as having 15.7gb
A curious finding I might add is that during formatting it will show up as "16_______" (I don't know the exact number) bytes which would suggest it can see the the entire 16gb |

@dfkt that is not the problem, I am fully aware of decimal/binary and bits/bytes
Later, I will find out the exact number it is reporting |
