I download books from a library using "Overdrive" They have MP3 & WMA format on most books. The Cowan D2 in not on their divise list that these books will work on. They work fine on my Sansa Clip.
Since the Cowan is supposed to play WMA,as well as MP3 I thought I'd try it. The books appear on my Music list, but will not play (It skips to the next song on my list) I tried putting them in Audible, - no go. I made up a seperate folder - no go. So wondering if there is anything I can do to make them work on D2? |

MP3s cannot have any DRM mechanism by default - any MP3 file should work on any player.
I cannot say about WMA, I never used that format for anything. If you want to play DRMed WMA, the D2 has to be in MTP mode. So, in short, stick with un-"protected" MP3 files, they won't give you any issues ever.

I do have it in MTP mode. My firmware is 2.57. Most books available through Overdrive are WMA, and they are protected. Others have done it. Just not sure how.
