Default Zune HD and Windows Mobile 7

So how do you guys think these two entities will interact with each other. Will they be tied together in any way? Personally, I'm hoping to see someone get Windows Mobile 7 working on the Zune HD. That would be intersting .

My best guess is that the Zune HD is heavily based on what we're going to see with windows Mobile 7. Keep in mind that Windows mobile 5, 6, 6.1, and 6.5 are all WinCE 5.2, and that Windows Mobile 7 is still WinCE. Windows Mobile 8 will be the first WinMo platform that is not based on WinCE, but that won't hit until 2012 at the earliest. WinMo 7 is currently slated for Q4 in 2010.

Windows Mobile 5 = Windows CE 5.2 (pretty much discontinued)
Windows Mobile 6 = Windows CE 5.2 (same)
Windows Mobile 6.1 = Windows CE 5.2 (out now)
Windows Mobile 6.5 = Windows CE 5.2 (to be released October 2009)
Windows Mobile 7 = Windows CE ?.? (to be released October 2010)
Windows Mobile 8 = All new platform (likely release in late 2012)

Windows 6.5 and older use resistive touch screens. Windows Mobile 7 will use capacitive. It is very likely that the Zune HD is based on the core of Windows Mobile 7, but won't be compatible with the full version whenever it comes out. The Tegra is being used with Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, so I expect more powerful hardware to be out for version 7.

Sorry for the nerd speak

I'm picturing WinMo 7 with a very Zune-esque interface. Perhaps the menu will be like the Zune's--one big list--with things like Dial, Text, Camera, Settings, etc. Hopefully Zune will be on the list, and that would contain all the media functions, i.e. music, video, social.

It will. Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, and 6.5 Professional already use it to an extent. However, these menus also scroll horizontally.

From what ive seen: 2007 projected version of WM7= today WM6.5. 2007 Projected version of WM8= today WM7, which is why its delaying so atrociously.

My best guess of how they will interact? The Zune HD interface and experience will be the media player for WM7 and WMP Mobile will be scrapped. At some point after WM7 is launched, there will be apps that work for both platforms and maybe the stores will merge to an extent.

All I wish is for my WM7 phone to look as good and sexy as my Zune HD.. I wish it was my phone. Its the perfect size and look.

My guess is that the Zune HD UI will be the media player in WinMo 7.
