how is more choice a bad thing? it is not a bad thing.

the x series and W series are technically "old" models since they are from the beginning of the year. The x series was never meant to be a real fighter in the mp3 market, more likely a stop gap between current gen and the new android walkmans.

also the E04x is only available in japan and no where else.

some models share the same internals but different model numbers

E34x is the same as the E44x, the E54x shares the same internals as the E44x but has a bigger screen and speakers,

S64x is the same as the S74x minus NC, most if not all of these players sit in their own segement or position and provide variety for consumers which is a good thing.

not more choice is bad , u got misunderstood, only stupid customer will say more choice is bad to customer. more choice always positive to customer, but its not good for Sony , more choice = more model = more cost by Sony . looks like i care to much for Sony , LOL!!

Just release again...

New PMP by Sony China

It blows my mind that there isn’t a sense of unity in Sony product releases across the world. Often enough we will see devices released in certain regions that would never be released anywhere else. For example, Sony’s new PMX-M89 personal media player is a device that will probably never see light outside of China. This device is extremely attractive and has many features that would appeal to consumers as well as the great looking Home interface. Featured in black or white and 116.974.012.7mm, this 480272 sized display is goregeous. Video support includes MP4 (and all the mpeg formats inbetween) and AVI; music support includes MP3, AAC, and WMA. That’s not all – there’s ebook support, a built in microphone for recording, and a FM radio. Sony has also included map software, but there is no word if there is a GPS unit inside. Here are some more pictures:

Tell that to GM. I understand that Toyota is going through a similar, albeit smaller and far less 'bankruptcy' version of the bailout thing. And even with Sony...how is the cash flow doing these days?

While I can (sort of) appreciate you wanting to make as wide and varied selection as possible, such diversity also dilutes your attention from getting things right, something that developing and concentrating on a "core" product group would facilitate. Why do you think iPods do so well? It isn't just the fancy commercials and the slick promotions that Cupertino is so adept at. They identify their core product and subsequent market niche, and then develop the hell out of it (excepting audio quality of course). Apple doesn't waste resources making parallel and tangent offshoots that only go to confuse and cause convolution for the marketplace and consumers.

Call it homogenizing if you want, but you can't accuse Apple of failing to make a great user interface, even if there's other things about the company to take issue with. The masses love iPods because they're easy to use and are so well thought out and relatively seamless to operate within their constraints. There isn't a MP3 Walkman I've ever owned and used that I can say the same thing about. Even that dastardly, bloated iTunes software--assuming you NEVER stray and touch or use anything else--works extremely well and smoothly for the vast majority.

Selamat malam pak a_tumiwa!

IMO, sony has a big OEM factory in China, so what the have to do is only order the OEM to print SONY logos on the "custom-specific" PMP. and the result is this China-exclusive sony's PMP...

just like another consumer electronic product, its origin of factory is not in 1 factory only, they all get "outsourced" to other company to lower production cost.... (especially popular and most-selling products)

what i'm affraid of, the quality of this OEM products will be less than what sony's original standard...

but i hope it will never happen (currently im using NWZ-A728, and i love the good sound it has)

maybe im saying like a smartass, but thats is all i know...
