My previous player (zen stone plus) had a configurable button which could be used to display the date and time. I just got a Clip+ and the only way to see the date/time seems to be to get into the menu where it gets set. Or am I missing something?

The clock might just be for use with the Rhapsody DRM music....but I'm not 100% sure of that.

I've wondered the same thing but could not find a time/date display button. Perhaps for a future firmware upgrade. A lost opportunity--some have asked for this.

I think the date and time enable it to know which songs were added most recently. It keeps a playlist of the 50 most recently added songs.

I consider it mostly a remnant of the older players with LCDs - my old e280 displayed the time at the home screen when not playing music. Since each home screen menu item takes-up the entire screen on the Clip+, there's not much room for time.
Also, since the Clip+ remembers the last song it was playing (unlike my e280), there's no need for a fancy home screen anymore. |

So when you make a voice recording, it can be time stamped with the correct time.
What did I win? |

It's also rather nice for Rockbox, which has a real clock.

Great point! Just turned mine on, and sure enough, there it says "14:33"

I love the WPS posted in the Rockbox thread here, which includes a timeclock screen. Something like that, and with the alternate screens, is just great.

Still no firmware update to provide an easy view of the clock?

Nope. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it, either.

Yes, How convenient it would be to have a "Hot-Key" to display date & time! One would think it could easily be configured as one of the displays when repeatedly pressing the center button when unit is playing. This normally displays Next Song & then Live EQ, Might be an excellent place to slip in "Date & Time!"

Perhaps the good folks at SanDisk will take note of watch bands that are coming out for use with the new iPod Nano, for people to wear the Nano on their wrists with the clock face showing.

Well, the Nano is thin enough. Using the Clip+ might be more of a stretch than the Nano, given the screen size as well.

As a wristwatch, certainly. But as a temporary watch/clock replacement, when out and about--something that people have been asking for, and that would seem to make easy-enough sense. (Or is this another case of too-small memory?)

And the too small memory excuse doesn't hold water....because I just turned on both of my Clip+'s, and sure enough, there they both said 13:53.

The Clip+'s screen is too small to act as a replacement watch IMO - but there's a reason why I use a proper watch.
