UCI SDK -> To create your own UCI (User Creative Interface, or "theme") for P3 in your PC
Firmware -> The software in your P3

Well, I copied the P3UCI SDK.swf and the Widget folder to My Pack\Theme and with a custom UCI loaded I still only get the Style option.

Edited my post. I had also copied the Widget folder to the same location, just forgot to specify it in my original post.

So I can load that .SWF and mess with the widgets there, but not in any other custom UCI right now?

Yes
actually you can with another custom UCI but only if it is a new custom UCI made with the SDK 2.0, not with the SDK 1.0. And I suppose you don't have such a custom UCI, like everybody here^^

edit: sorry Uglak, you're owned :P

Exactly. The widgets are only available in UCI created/edited with the new SDK 2.0.

do widgets use more / drain more power from the player, logic would surely say yes, not much maybe but still ... you could have a dripping battery widget that takes more power from the player to show you how much power you have left (or are losing through over widget abuse)

i have grown to dislike the widgets, even the useful ones (yes there are 1 or 2) as they are quite fugly and obtrusive

the dimmer is useful to some extent , sleep timer, again useful, clocks to, but ther is no need for big ugly fancy things as most would live happily in a small popout menu for the use they get

and what the gingerbread man is all about i will never know, oh well

This official SDK looks entirely different upon opening than the original one did. Now I'm lost, I need another Korean tutorial video :S

Only widget I use is the light one, well and the clock. Saves going through all the menus. I hate animated stuff just drains power and uses the CPU.

This is definitely a good update. This firmware seemed to improve the interface responsiveness for a slightly bit, and they added SDK support. I'm eager to see what you guys that code come up with for the P3.

Even though this a definitely a little step forward for Samsung, I have to agree that what they should do is implement the R1's UI into the P3, and then improve on from there. Maybe it will happen, maybe not, and even it doesn't, I surely hope they keep improving the UI and add features that can make things easier. Because so far it seems they are gradually forgetting about the P3 and focusing on other PMPs. It wouldn't matter that much though, the player is solid as it is, and in sound/video quality beats any other player (I guess the S9 wins in the video category, but only because of its AMOLED screen).

http://iraphaeli.tistory.com/615

- possibly the first UCI theme to take advantage of the new theme pack - sweet.

Sorry to hear its just another minor update from Sammy heh (as far as the FW goes) - but I guess the fact that there is a new FW and they released an SDK means they haven't completely forgotten the ol' P3...
