Ok so 1 day ago I bought the K181s, and I'm going to bring them back because the store sold me scratched up ones that really ticked me off. I noticed they also have the k171s in stock. The k171s have a smaller frequency response but nothing I can notice. They also have a higher ohms impedance. Now I'm stumbled. Should I just trade me 181s for different ones or should I take the 171s. What would be a better choice? I'm not too good with headphones so I hope you guys will be able to help me out. Just so you know I'm using these with my D2.

Hey,
you're using them directly out of your D2, right? I'd look out for a set of Denon D1001 'phones. These are way more natural sounding than the boomy K181 - if that is what you'd like to get, naturally. Otherwise, if you were intentionally looking for some bassmachine like the K181 I'd say "get a new K181". It's AKGs top-notch pure DJ-headphone (which doesn't have to mean much, I suppose ), and it gives you more than enough bass (not only midbass but deep lows as well). The K171 is somewhat different, basically it's studio-equipment used for monitoring. I personally don't like it's sound, it's somewhat muddy in the lower mids and lacks transparent highs. edit: Sorry, I posted too early. What came to my mind this very moment is the lack of bass of the D2. So I'd at least try the Denon out, if you're intrestet - it might be a bit bassshy (uh, 3 "s" - somewhat funny ).
