Default Problems replacing hard drive

My 20GB Zen Sleek Photo recently died. It would start up, but would be frozen - putting my ear to it I can hear bad sounds coming from the HDD (I've heard plenty of dying HDDs, and it gives off the sound of a dying HDD).

The old drive was a 20GB Toshiba MK2006GAL. I bought a 30GB Toshiba MK3006GAL to replace it. When I power it up, it goes into Recovery Mode. I can format the drive, but when I restart it still boots into Recovery Mode. If I connect it to the computer, Creative Media Center says no player is connected. If I launch the firmware updater, it also says no player is connected.

What can I do?
Thanks!
