Default PMP no, DAP yes!

Guess that should read:
PMP no. DAP yes.

I'm looking at replacing my antique MP3 player.
Would like a new flash drive equivalent.
No album art needed.
No video playback, no internet, no crap I don't need.
Good audio!
Buttons are nice.
Long battery life.
Random play.
Easy to navigate.
Linux friendly.

Am I the only one? Or is there some ~32GB player I'm missing out on?

Dont really get 32GB players that aren't for video. So you'd either have to get an S9 with the 3.3" screen you dont need, a 16GB D2 with a 16GB SD card (again, with a 2.5" screen which is probably too much) or accept a 16GB player and chose the i7. It pretty much stands that if you want long battery life and great SQ then its something from the iaudio range.

The IAudio 7 is almost perfect as per your requirements except for a 16mb maximum available size.

But because the '7 does nothing other than music, 16mb is more than enough to load up a couple hundred hours of music.

With both my previous IAudio X5L/32gb and now my S7/32gb players, I've still never needed more than 15gb worth of music on board, and at this point, I have every single album loaded up that I might ever want to listen to, including a dozen Christmas albums and about 40 or more Hearts of Space 1-hour programs.

The IAudio 7 has been discontinued (I think?), but it's nearly exactly what you're looking for, and no player can beat it's sound quality due to its' use of several of the sound tweaking apps like Jet Audio, Mach3Bass and others.

What about something simple like a Sansa Fuze, upwards of 8GB, all the features you want, none you don't. Sound quality is good, EQ settings are decent and battery life is very good as well. Also has standard shuffle function.

Another decent alternative is the Sansa View, a multimedia player by design, but a better standard DAP. With memory up to 32GB, intuitive UI, sound volume and quality are good, Drag and Drop function or sync function, buttons! Battery life is about 24 hours (or longer, they've probably improved it) and a solid build design, plus expanable memory for MicroSD card. Also is Linux friendly.

That's just my two cents though.

The View!?!?
Don't get the View. They're notoriously buggy.....haven't been supported with a firmware update by SanDisk in over a year, the sound isn't as good as a Fuze, battery life varies wildly depending on which firmware version you try. The View board at the Sansa forum is full of angry, bitter people.

The 8GB Fuze can be expanded with a 16GB microsdhc....it's not 32GB, but still a fair amount of space.

Over here they must have shedloads of Views they're trying to get rid of. They've been discounted, but not by much. Avoid at any cost.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I'm liking the look of the S9 32gb. Got the buttons I need. Guess I can deal with oled display and the extras.
i7 looked ok. But I need a little more than 16gb. If they had a 32gb I'd be set.
Had a ipod touch for one day and returned because of a negative black display issue.
To pause on that crappy thing: hit the button twice and touch the screen in the right area. Not for me.
1st and last Apple product I'll buy. And iTunes... hate with a passion and definitely not linux friendly.
A coworker had a Sansa I played with. Wasn't impressed when it died after 2 weeks.

Thanks again!
