Default Getting an S9 in Hong Kong

Having lost my Meizu M6 recently I've been looking for a new player and the S9 seems to tick all the boxes only it's quite expensive in Ireland or the Uk.

My flatmate is leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow for a few weeks and I was thinking I might ask her to get one when she's over there since they are prob much cheaper.

Few questions though
Is there a difference between a IE/Uk version and a HK version?
Can English firmware be flashed onto the player?
Where would she get one? (maybe someone knows a store over there?)

Are there any other issues/differences that I should be aware of and that could not make it worth my while?

Thanks,
Jozi

1 - No
2 - Yes
3 - Don’t know, they’re made in Korea

No isssues I can think of other than you should get a good pair of iem's or headphones, as the included cowon iem's suck. BTW, did you read the review here.

2: Korean or international firmware differences are minimal. Korean has some semi-useful dictionary, international doesn't. That's about all. It shouldn't matter which one you run.

3: Go to http://www.cowonglobal.com/ > Where to buy > Asia > Hong Kong (It's a stupid Flash site, thus impossible to link directly to it.)

This link will get you closer. Pick Asia, then Hong Kong off the pop-up.

Sounds like you (or your friend if she is nice enough) will have to do some research on retailers in HK and price shopping. Might be easier to do in person once your friend gets to HK, but if she is willing or not is another matter. You might have a hard time navigating HK retailer's websites if you only speak English.

WalkGood: Cheers for the reply, been reading replies since they came out and dying to get one but they don't come to cheap over here (Ireland) and with this recession and all....

dfkt& Olley: Why didn't I think of that! Cheers for the links!

invertedskull: She's from HK, sent her the link above to retailers. When I spoke to her she said some of her friends might know a place, or even have them in their shop (discount? ). I've told her how much I'm willing to pay for one and she'd let me know before buying.

Now's hoping I'll own one soon

I better get reading up on tweaks and UI's etc, came accross a UI yesterday thats supposed to be good.

Thanks for the replies

Was so looking forward to getting this player. That was until my flatmate emailed me with prices, they cost as much there as here

I really thought they would have been cheaper over there, will have to save a bit longer i guess

Are there any places at all these can be got cheaper than in the UK/Ireland?

B&H Photo ships internationally, but I'm not sure it'll be cheaper. As for Amazon.com & Newegg in the US, they DON'T ship to other countries for electronics sales.

Yeah, which is why my cousin from usa bought it and sent it from his place

As long as you have a trusting friend in us it shouldnt be much issue
The shipping using usps costs around 32 usd from LA to finland. Even so it is sitll alot cheaper than any official stores in the world

As mentioned, new egg and the us amazon aren't much good to me. Uk amazon is about the same as everywhere else. I have a few mates in canada who might post one over, if it's not to much bother that is. They seem to be around 300 CA dollars, which is about 200 euro's.

I've just booked holidays, getting this player might take a bit longer now
