Default Rockbox is on, but do I need the old firmware?

The old stock firmware is still on my player more or less lying underneath rockbox. So, whenever I want to sync up my device it switches over to the old system and syncs there. I unplug it and restart it like normal and update the rockbox database. When I plug it back in the old OS does its own refreshing of the database, etc...

Is the old OS necessary for syncing or can I get rid of it completely? And, if so, how? It's mostly now just becoming an annoyance.

Thanks!

Use rockbox's USB mode (plug in cable while in rockbox with any remotely modern build) instead of the original firmwares if you don't like using the original firmware's USB.

That works. I'm just very used to plugging mine in while it's turned off. I'd still like to be completely rid of the Sansa OS.

Theres an updated bootloader somewhere on the rockbox patch tracker that boots into rockbox on USB insert.

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=22130.0 has release candidates for sansapatcher with "usb-aware" bootloaders.
