I bought a set of CX500's recently. Obviously fake because they sound really tinny - no bass at all. My original 'rubbish' earbuds that came with my mp3 player are far superior.
I have to say that apart from the sound they are pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing. Pure-Base are the outfit concerned. Very polished web site, allegedly UK based (although it turns out they aren't), completely fooled me (normally pretty careful), and I paid using PayPal which was my second mistake. PayPal will not allow me to open a 'dispute' to reclaim the money because I did not buy through eBay - completely washed their hands of it. I guess I am poorer but wiser, but you needn't be - if you make any internet purchases avoid PayPal, and stick to known reputable websites (such as Amazon, Tesco and similar). That's what I shall be doing from now. |

If you have to use PayPal, always use a credit card. You can file a fraud complaint with your CC company and they'll handle getting your money back.

There's NO WAY of knowing whether yours is fake or real.
The only way to ensure it's real is to buy directly from sennheiser or from it's distributors. Fakes have always been changing to replicate more of the genuine ones, webs showing pictures have long been outdated. Since you bought urs online, 90% it's a fake. |

if there was no way to tell then it wouldn't matter if it was fake or not would it?

It's not about the appearances... The fakes are said to sound A LOT worse than the real CX.

what I meant was that if they sounded exactly like the real ones and looked the same then it wouldn't matter. but that's very true dfkt
