AKG K77 headphones review.

I have a set of sennheiser hd201`s in the house for use with my 4gb zen , they sound decent and have excellent resistance of only 24 ohms , but unfortunately their sensitivity is a modest 102db and to use them with the zen , you simply have to max out the volume to 100%

A seller on ebay uk was selling brand new in box akg k77s as shown in the link above for £29 delivered, for some reason this site wouldnt let me enter a link that would post a pic of the headphones ( anybody explain why this is so ? ) The AKG`s have a resistance of 32 ohms but also an excellent sensitivity of 115 db, more than enough for using with a zen player.

Build quality is 1st class, cable exits from left side only and will withstand a lot of abuse . Its a circumaural design and you would hardly know you were wearing them , this makes longer listening sessions extremely easy. Bass response is excellent and avoids the overbloated and exaggerated lower end that some headphones produce, a bass boost is not required. Vocals are clear and sweet and sit very well in the mix also. I listen to a lot of jazz guitar, female vocals accompanying acoustic instruments and classic rock such as ronnie montrose or pink floyd, the akg`s dont miss a beat with any of them.

Totally recommended and a headphone set that shames many more expensively priced units.

With my Fuze and Clips, the HD201's really benefitted from my FiiO E3 and E5....as the OP correctly noted, they need more power than many DAP's have. For the price of the two, though, you can find a more efficient pair of headphones, I would imagine. That said, I use my E5 all the time, with all my headphones.

I have a fiio e5 also ( which is still in a drawer ) , but if i am on the move the last thing i want is to be fiddling with it and the extra wires involved. The akg k77s blow the 201`s out of the water in every department and if you can get em for £29 and you dont need any external amp whatsoever, its a no brainer for me.

Sennheiser HD202's are the better choice gebal, as they're easy to drive, and the SQ is fantastic. It's a step up from the HD201's, and no amp is necessary.

ive read numerous times the 202`s are a tight fit and comfort becomes an issue.

As I said in another thread, the 202s are ugly as sin. Plus, if I buy an e5 I might find I use it with other kit later.
But you reckon I should get £30 'phones rather than 201s and an e5?

The HD201's are actually kinda loose fitting, and if you lean forward, they'll slide off.

The 201's are wimpy for sure....useless w/o an amp. I think the 202's would be worth trying for sure.
