Default Zen audio skips?!

Ok, I just got a brand new Creative Zen 4gb from wallmart, and the audio skips. This includes the sample videos and music that shipped with the player, and the mp3's I put on it. Every second or so, the music just cuts out for a bit, and sometimes it happens so rapidly all you can hear is a clicking. For some reason with the video's I've added it happens less frequently. Once every 30 seconds for a full length film, and once every 10 seconds for one a few minutes long.

I dont have long to return it if I have to, but I'd like to fix it. I've installed the newest drivers, and that did not make a change. I've also listened to it through mutliple hadphones/speakers to make sure it was actually the player messing up, and it is.

Can anyone help me?

Although I would return it since it's new.You can do a Cleanup>Reboot thru recovery/rescue mode on the player. That will usually solve those types of issues.http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=31947

Thanks for the suggestion Coachop, but it made no change. I guess I'll return it tomorrow.

Update

Well I decided to listen to the zen in my car on the way to walmart. Lo and Behold it plays fine! What the heck?! I take it back home and hook it up to my headphones, and it resumes cutting in and out again. I hook it back up to the cheapo speakers and it cuts in and out again. I play around with my nice speakers and it works just fine. I grab my friends headphones and it works just fine. I played around with my cheap stuff again and realize that if I half plug them it it works fine. I dont understand that, but it seems to work the decent audio equipment I own. Its playing funny with the jacks of the cheap things though. I'm getting some IEMs in the mail in about a week, lets hope it works with them.

This means I've kept the player. I actually just put on a Best Skins Ever skin on it, and loaded up all of the music I want (22 mb left, how perfect is that?) and put some videos on a 2gb sd card I had lying around (Dr Horrible on the go!) I'm getting re-excited for this again.

Does anyone know why some jacks are finicky with the zen?
