Default Pasen Italy

Pasen TouchMusic is roughly the same price, and with a design very similar to Cowon D2. I wonder if they are ripping people off, or could it be worth its cost?

Looks like one of those generic Chinese iPod Touch clones, just with some "brand" name slapped on it. And yes, they certainly ripped off the UI design of the D2 with that one. First one that does that, as far as I know.

The commonly available ones tend to rip off the iPod UI in general:

That, btw, is an old player. I'm surprised that they're even selling it any longer.

There are lots of reasons to be similar to D2 (it's not simple a ripoff)... in fact this Teclast T39 (branded as Pasen) is Telechips based (TeleChip TCC8200 / DAC Wolfson WM8978G) and is of a generation of some time before Cowon D2. Anyway have a good processor and good sound.

All the similarities stops here... as the main difference of Cowon D2 with any other player of the market which makes D2 the best of its kind (except S9 which I don't know yet) is its reliability due to the firmware, Cowon features, SD card slot (and also external features (Rockbox)). This Teclast T39 were (is?) very unreliable.
Beside the quality of manufacture... the chipset and DAC used in Cowon D2 were by that time the best available... by far better than Pasen / Teclast.

But also was the price: with the price of Cowon D2 you could buy 2 Teclast (Pasen) T39. Now the price seems to be alike according with the OP.

In that time the extra price did justified the investment.

I'll admit the Euro vs. Shekel rate is a bit confusing to me... I was sure I bought my D2 at a similar price, though.

Can you find out the chinese name of this for me?

This is a Onda VX858... and possibly the most dangerous of all ripoff available. Nobody knows what can be found in the inside of this device
Original VX858 was a Rockchip RK2608 with a Wolfson WM8750 (the same DAC of S9, being S9 DAC a new generation by Wolfson).
Onda VX858 brings a excellent sound and an average video image... by its price good enough if it's not required anything extra. Touhscreen very limited and disgusting.

Due to its aspect (looks like a iTouch) Chinese have put all kind of processor inside starting by Onda itself, which have several version and firmwares not compatible. Turning it into a very unreliable device. Upgrade of firmware in this player is a nightmare having one of the highest rates of "bricking".

Not recommendable by any way.
