Default Battery self-discharges !!

Hi,

Battery in my iRiver Clix self-discharges even the player is switched off.
If I fully charge battery and left the player for 3 days, then battery is copletely drained.
Do you have the same problem or it is just my battery fault ?

I know that there are some internal mechanisms like clock, timer etc. etc. and Clix uses a small amount of energy for them, but not the whole energy I think...

My CLix player works as follow:
- mp3 - 27-30 hours
- video - 6-7 hours
- swithced off - 3 days

Any ideas ?

Default Battery self discharge and firmware version?

I am also very interested in this topic. There is a lot of discussion about it on other forums.... and it is often written that the clix will self-discharge because it never really completely turns off ...

Some people say it will last about 3 days, others say a week, and others still say they see no self discharge at all ...

You should post what firmware version you are running...??? The behavior *may* be dependand on the firmware version ...

Cool

It was my first impression - that there is a "bug" in the firmware, which prevents Clix to be switched-off completely.

I observed this problem with the FW 1.11
After update my player FW to version 2.01 (5 days ago) I see exactly the same issue.

And it is another interesting thing - sometimes when Clix is switching-on - it brings the menu immediately. The other times - with the startup animation... It looks strange for me - I don't see any rule for that.
I'm waiting for the answer from the iRiver support.

Unless recharged (or restarted), my clix never shows the startup animation. Before I got mine replaced, occasional use (no video or games, purely music and I use it about ... 2-3 hours (not continuous) a day) would last me about 5 days before draining. I'm on 2 bars right now and am on my fourth day since I charged it. I've watched short clips on it from time to time, but I've also connected it to the comp twice to upload some songs.

I don't know. I think the "no complete switch-off" explanation fits, though I hope we get an option to be able to actually switch it off completely to prevent the drain soon.

Talking My experience w/clix battery & startup

Here's the pattern I've observed: If you leave the clix untouched for more than 24 hours or so, it powers down (almost?) completely and saves the battery pretty well (about as well as most cellphones with Lithium battery technology), and then boots up next time with the animated splash screen. If you power it off, it initially goes into a light sleep (or "instant-on" mode), like TVs do. Then powering it on within the next 24 hours or so gives you the Main Menu directly, but using it every day, even once, will drain the battery more quickly, roughly 1/3 "segment" of the charge indicator per day.

Sounds like the thinking was, "If most people use this thing every day, they will want the speedy startup and be willing to charge more often. If they pack it away for a few days, they won't expect that instant gratification next time, but they *will* expect it to not have completely drained the battery dry.

Just my WAG,

Wink

Yes, I think you have absolutely right.
However I'd like to have possibility to disable that behavior - or just additional option in the menu i.e. "switch off player after 1hr/2hrs/12hrs/24hr"

Thumbs down Self Discharge SUCKS

Now that I have owned a Clix for a couple of weeks, I realize how much of a problem this battery behavior is for me ... If I listen to my Clix an hour each day, every day, then for me it's not a 20+ hour capacity player at all ... it becomes a 3 hour capacity player and then needs recharging.

I have to say that I love the Clix .. everything else about it is GREAT ... but if I had known I would only get 3 hours of use from it before recharging, then I would not have purchased it.

This behavior may be fine for those who use their Clix many hours each day, but iRiver should DEFINITLY give the user a software switch that lets them turn off the "instant on" feature in order to get a decent performance with a shorter daily usage ...

Not true. Just today, i left my clix off for 2 whole days. Put it on today with 3 bars full.

Edit: I did this again a few days ago, again its been about a year with the clix. I left it off for 2 days, and again, 3 bars full.
