In The Mouth Of Madness
Sam Neil from JP stars and it really plays with your mind. And oddly enough another Sam Neil movie Event Horizon is good for science fiction horror. There is an old one called Leviathan that though reminds me of The Thing is set at bottom of the ocean on a drilling platform. |

Scariest movie? Well there is two different types of scary movies. ones that scare you till you pee yourself while watching it but after that you never even flinch again or the ones that steal sleep away from you during the nights.
Scariest movie while watching, The Others , you have no idea what the hell is going on and you try desperately to figure it out while being scared and in the end you end up saying "wow, I never thought of that" Scariest always and forever no matter when and where , Dawn of the Dead (original 80's version) Plagues my nightmares occasionally. |

Yeah I've watched it many times before, lots of memorable moments. Simon Pegg at his best.

But it's the greatest music video ever made, IMO.

Today's horror movie sucks, some are trying to outgore each other while others are just ruining themselves with crappy sequels *cough* saw 2,3,4,5,6,47, *cough*. And if you ever saw or will see Paranormal Activity you have my eternal pity.

Although I do like the Saw movies - mostly they just make me laugh.

Well I do count gore as scary but the cheapest form of scare tactics, I only saw the first 1 because of Cary Elwes and 2 because of interest and mostly they are all the same. Guy kidnaps clueless idiot, clueless idiot maims himself and/or close relative, jigsaw laughs evily and gives preachy one liners about life and it's many lessons, the end.

Now that I think about it the scariest movie I've ever seen (while watching and when not) that is, the hybrid of scary movies ,the closest you can get to scary anywhere anytime and no matter how many times you watch it. EVIL DEAD. The original evil dead ,not the funny sequels, scariest movie in my opinion. Whoever denies this and has watched it is a liar and deserves to be caned.

Shining IMO, i'm not that scared by the only paranormal stuff. Well, I am scared when watching the movie, but it doesn't stay with me after the movie ends. Parts of the shining did, as did psycho.

Mentioned already and I am late to this thread, but for me, without question, the scariest/creepiest movie ever is The Exorcist.
A brilliant film, William Friedkin's finest work - a masterpiece adaptation of the equally brilliant novel from William Peter Blatty.

You're not really late he bumped a 6 month old thread lol.
I have a really high tolerance for scary, but The Exorcist is definitely near the top of the list of movies that are scary. But i watch it last week before bed and slept like a baby so i dunno.
