Default How to do text to speech !

Hi I live in the UK and just got the P3 today and wanted to put some ebooks onto my P3.. I successfully tranferred the files onto it using emodio (one mp3 file and one txt file) but don't know why the tts file does not come up when pressing text in the player..

Can someone help??

My Firmware is EU 1.15 and don't know where/how to update as its not on the official site and i would preferably like to stick to EU firmware..

Thanks

Matt- LOVING EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!

Just a side note... The Author's Guild made enough stink about text-to-speech being a copyright infringment (potentially stealing sales from audiobooks) that Amazon has promised to make the feature "author's choice" on the new Kindle.

As for TTS on your P3, I can't help as I can't buy one yet. Glad you like it though!

I can't get TTS to work. I signed up in Emodio (wasn't easy), downloaded the voice programs (two languages, two voices) and installed them. I go to My PC in emodio and open a text file. I go to TTS and "play it"... all is fine. I can hear the voice read out the text.
Then I click on the big arrow to transfer to the P3.
There is some processing going on. The TTS file is created but it's awfully short, it has only like 1-2 words (original file had hundreds) and it doesn't play on the T3.

Anybody was smarter/luckier?

Ermm.. what i did was:

1. type what u want in the box in emodio
2. choose language and get it to process
3. Click Arrow to transfer file to P3
4. 2 files are created, one is Mp3, the other is txt
5. Go to MY computer, P3, Text
6. The two files shud be in here. COpy the MP3 file and paste. so you have 1 .mp3 and one copy.
7. Rename the copy to .tts and it shud work. Thats what i did and it works fine on P3.

Hope this helps.

1,2,3 ok.
However when I transfer, the two files are txt and tts, no mp3.
And the tts is essentially empty. I have emodio 1.0.3.7 which was
shipped with my device. Now I see there is a newer version available, maybe
I should give it a try.

I was also wondering whether it has to do with the MTP/UMS connection.
I use UMS.

I thought the P3 brought text-to-speech onboard as an improvement over the P2. Do you still have to use emodio to produce an MP3 of the text? I could swear one of the early videos of the P3 had text reading and pointed it out as improved over the P2.

Installed emodio on another computer, did the version upgrade as suggested (now 1.04), and it worked. P3 is in UMS mode.

are the tts files relitively the same size or slightly bigger than a text file?

I might just end up with a 32GB P3 for tts and 32GB S9 for music and the like.

tts files are obviously much larger than the corresponding txt files, since they contain sound information. Same as audio books. Expect about a factor of 1,000 increase in size.

I assumed the speech syn. was on the fly like the kindle2 and the tts was more of a pauses in speech marker table. I will look into making a rockbox module that can do on the fly speech syn. if that is possible.

If anyone here has the files, kindly do us a favour by dumping them somewhere on a publically-accessible site, please.
