I've spent over $150 trying to replace the defective hard drive in my Creative Zen Vision M. I think it's a problem with the ZIF cable, but I have yet to find anyone who has a new cable available and for sale. I can't justify spending much more on trying to fix this thing. Can you still buy a new, warrantied Vision M? If so, do you have recommendations on the best place to purchase one? If not, what's my best bet for my next MP3 player purchase? BTW: I'm not interested in an IPOD. Thanks.

You can find the cables for sale by doing a Google search for "zen parts" or checking eBay.
Creative still sells refurb ZVM's every now and then with a warranty. See this thread. They currently have 30GB ZVM's for sale for $109. See here.

@luvwarmth
Does your player show the hard drive error icon? If so, it could be also a motherboard issue... Some time ago a friend of mine gave his faulty ZVM to me to make me see if it was fixable or not: I was sure that it had a failing hard drive because of the aforementioned error but, when I tried it with the hard drive and the ZIF ribbon cable from my ZVM and though they were perfectly working on my ZVM, the error remained. Then, I've tried the hard drive and the ZIF ribbon cable from his ZVM on mine and they worked flawlessy: this meant that his problems weren't caused neither by the hard drive or the ZIF ribbon cable. You should try to check if this could be your case... By the way, on Ebay you could find hard drive connectors for your ZVM at a very cheap price: just make a search. Yeah, if the error message on the screen says "hardware error" it really is hard to tell. Most of the time it is a hard drive problem.
