Default Some Audio Files Cause Lock-Up

I am having an annoying problem with my Zen. I have had it since christmas and yea. Whenever I try to play certain songs on my player the screen goes black and freezes up and I can't do anything but reset it and wait until it re boots again. Anyone have a solution to this?

What kind of files are they? It sounds like there may be something within the files (iincompatible or corrupt files) that the Zen does not like.

ShadowShyris, please take note. I corrected the thread title for you.

Im having the same problem and think i have worked it out.
I recently bought the old 3OH!3 album and the files on that are m4a audio files ever since ive put that on there its kept locking up

could that be the reason? Im going to take them off tonight and see if that helps

Im going to Austria form the UK on friday for a holiday which invovles a 36 hour coach drive so it better work!!!!

EDIT: I reset mine and it just freezes up again, is that the same as your problem? It stays in this loop until I use the mp3 recovery tool which makes it work for an hour or so then die

I have emailed creative so waiting for a reply on that

I just recieved an email back from Creative, just going through the motions lol
Try the reset button
Try Disk Cleanup
Try Reformating the whole player
Ive done all these and no luck so hopefully will get a replacement....but if it happens again its going straight back for a Cowan iaudio S9 haha

M4A files can come with all sorts of extra metadata with them that the Zen will not be able to handle. See this thread for more information. Starting with post 9. Remove the files from the Zen and your problem will most likely go away.

It isn't stuck in a reset loop. The bad files are the same format as the other music files I have. I have also tired taking the files pff and putting them back on and that didn't work either

Just beacuse they are in the same format doesn't mean they won't have problems like additional metadata. Taking them off and then putting them back on won't do anything. Have you taken them off, let them off, and then booted into Recovery Mode and done a Cleanup?
