Hey Everyone
I just today purchased the new Samsung YP-Q1 here in Canada, and I successfully converted it to UMS mode using the 1.23 Korean version. The instructions I found are for the T-10, but they work just as well for the Q1. *NOTE*: THIS WORKED FOR ME, BUT USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE *NOT* MINE, AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR MP3 PLAYER!! The instructions are translated from French, so the grammar is a slightly off. Also there is one mistake about halfway through the instructions: Where it says to write "d-ypp2", it should be "-d ypp2" (note the space between d and ypp2. The author has it correctly in the screenshot a few lines below). You will need the Korean 1.23 version software found here: http://http://www.samsung.com/sec/support/download/supportDown.do?group=videoaudio&type=mp3players&su btype=flash_yepp&model_nm=YP-Q1AB&disp_nm=YP-Q1AB&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=FM&vTyp e=R&prd_ia_cd=03040200 You will also need some software called tcctool which you can download here: http://download.rockbox.org/utils/tc...tool-win32.zip Finally, the instructions are here: http://72.14.205.100/translate_c?hl=...BZBQVqlCoyTLaA There is a Vista version, and below that, an XP version. I HAVE NOT TRIED THE VISTA VERSION as I have Windows XP, so I can't confirm that the Vista version works. Good luck ![]() edit: I just noticed that tcctool is (according to it's name) for win32, so if you have a 64 bit version of Windows, it may not work. I also don't know if tcctool will work with Windows Vista or not. Last edited by axle; 12-05-2008 at 01:17 AM. |

Hello
My YP-Q1 is not recognized as a mass storage device.

What a joke!
I think I'll rush out and buy a YP-Q1 so I can fiddle around with risky firmware operations to try and recover the missing functions... NOT!! Who is Samsung appeasing by disabling UMS/MSC and FLAC? Oh right, I think I can guess. |

Who says Samsung disabled FLAC in MTP-Versions of the Q1? That's definitely not true... And there's no risk at all, with tcctool/fwdn you can always use the buit-in TC-Chip for firmware recovery...

Thanks for the info. It wouldn't be easy, in a store, to check whether a player actually supports these functions, and it doesn't help when the manufacturer and retailer information is either incomplete or incorrect.
From the specifications tab at http://www.digitalhome.com.au/iPod_M...3_PLAYER/28514 Quote:

I suppose Samsung doesn't want to be responsible for supporting FLAC, so they include it but keep it off the spec's page. I still think there's scope for conspiracy theories about the omission of UMS/MSC in the USA, Europe & Australia though.

That's weird.... On the german website flac is listed as supported format. And the german players (EU) are MTP. http://av.samsung.de/produkte/detail...2-2f5ffa4d892e

Up to 48 kHz/16 bit flac format is playable using EU (MTP) firmware.
Playing 96khz/24 bit format will display "format not supported" message or freeze the whole player , it depends on firmware version. |
