Exclamation Rockbox 3.1 breaks Car Adapter

It appears the new USB charging mode is breaking my car adapter. Here is the Bug Report I filed:

Problem: Car adapter no longer functions. When car adapter is attached a USB icon is quickly displayed and the player reboots. Prior to this build (I was behind a few) car adapter worked just fine.

Player: Sansa e260
Car Adapter: DLO Transdock (assume all the same)
Build: r19796-090119

Tested turning On/Off Car Adapter Mode, no change. Sansa OEM firmware still works and plays via adapter as always. Put player into rockbox and had MP3 playing and inserted car adapter, instant reboot. Had player turned off and connected car adapter the unit boots into bootloader, rockbox loads and instantly reboots.

JBDive,

I have the same problem with my c240 with 3.1, but not with either my e260 or e270? Thought it was just the c200 series. I use just the standard sync and charge cable in my car plugged into a cig lighter usb adapter and also I have the Timex Made For Sansa Alarm Clock. With the e200 series all works as before, boots into rockbox or stays in rockbox if plugged in while running. The c240 however exhibits the symptoms you mention, Boots to OF USB connect mode if pluged in while off, or switches to the Rockbox USB logo screen if plugged in while rockboxed. I haven't tried downgrading yet to see if it fixes it in 3.0 but i suppose it's easy enough to do for a test. I do notice that the e200 series FREEZE up after a while if on the Timex Clock for more than an hour or so, have to do the power button for 30 sec to kill them. I will downgrade and test tonight.

ok so reverted back to r18607-3.0-080923 with the same results. I did not do a wipe and load just an overwrite.

This really sucks as I use the car adapter daily, well I did.

ok so here is the deal and in my opinion this breaks Rockbox on the Sansa.

The current builds will crash and reboot if plugged into a USB anything such as a Car Adapter unless you press and hold the Select button (center wheel on e200 series) during the boot. I guess somebody decided this was a good idea but obviously those programmers don't use the Sansa in their car. To use Rockbox in the car I have to remember to quickly press the Select button as I crank the car, not easy as it's both right handed.

My bug stands as a bug as far as I am concerned as this is a deal breaker. It has really hampered the useability of rockbox.

I noticed you're using an old build. Does r19797 fix it like the comments suggest?

Tested build r19817-090122 on my e280v1 [01.02.18A]. Rockbox functions normally with 3 different models of USB car/lighter adapters as well as three models of USB wall adapters. Meaning, it doesn't boot/reboot into the OF. I don't have a dock to test, though.

Note I was at Build: r19796-090119 so was there some huge change between 19797 and 17796?

Just tested r19817-090122 and it seems to create other issues. The car adapter appears to work as I plugged it in with music playing, plugged it in while off, turned it off and turned car off and it seems to be back to normal however I will want a few days of testing before I say it's fixed that. On the other hand I plugged it into my USB cable and USB port on my PC while in rockbox and I got this ugly screen crash which was replaced pretty quick by a USB icon image HOWEVER the unit is now locked up. I cannot power it off/on, see the drives on my PC or anything. Took me 20 mins to get the device back by way of various pwr/lock/rec holding.

Not convienced this is fixed and will report back in a day or so as I listen to podcast while driving around. If they (rockbox) could get the USB xfer fixed or Sansa release a firmware to support SDHC then the Sansa e200's would still be the best bang for the buck for the next year.

How about you just test the current build instead of older builds.

Was using the builds being offered by the install/update tool. Actually wish I had left it alone as my version from some 6 months ago worked fine.

It does appear working now and watched a video last night which seemed to perform better than the older builds as well.
