No, the D2 doesn't have password protection (my Zune has it as well). I'd settle for gapless playback - FTW!!!

I've always been curious why somebody would want password protection. What do you use it for?

To keep pesky friends or relatives out of your D2 ^_^

I modded my touchscreen with a fingerprint sensor, and every time someone unauthorized touches it, the database corrupts until the user resets it.

Oh wait.. it does that when I touch it.

But.. if someone goes on your D2, and sees you have it PASSWORD PROTECTED, they're gonna be like, "what's he hiding??" then try to get into it even more, thus rendering your efforts worthless. It's only a matter of time before they assume you have adult movies on there. Now what?! Haha :P Blame it on secret government files???

The scrreen is a bit small for porn right? I mean I really don't think Monica Santiago's butt would fit. ;-)

Even if protected by password, the files would still be accessible via msc mode, simply by connecting the device to a computer. Password protectikon makes sense (does it?) on devices like the Zune or iPod, both of wich are unaccesible without special software.

Get a Zune, that works well for password protection. if you don't have the code you can't even hook it up to the computer to charge or sync. You'd have to reset the device and reinstall the fw, so you secret would REMAIN a secret.

Thats not the way it works. On the creative line anyway you would never even know there was anything on it. You will never see anything there when you set the password. It hides all those files. Real simple idea. I do not really care but for a lot of people password protection would be nice.

I never even considered a feature like password protection. It's a DAP, not a PDA. As others have mentioned, it would be useless on a player that has an MSC mode, as it can be easily bypassed. If you are using the player as a mass storage device and want to encrypt other data like documents / password files etc., I would suggest tools like Truecrypt or GPG.

Lets end this discussion on this. The only reason is to hide porn. Yes if you plug it into a PC you will still see it. The reason you want the password protection is for when you hand the player to your 10 year old nephew and he is looking through it he does not see the porn. There is no other reason for it then that. You can put the files deep in folders but if you have the player set to play random then if he hits next it might jump to a porn file.

Adding password protection would be very easy to do in the next firmware update. Good luck I know, but it would be nice.

Except wrap it in duct tape and not let anyone touch it. It's far too valuable for a 10 year old nephew to be touching! I'd rather just protect my D2 :P

BS, just buy one of those password protected boxes and put your D2 in it. I'd give you a link, but I fear the DarkSide will delete it
