Default The Big Zune 30Gb Boot Freeze victims list.

Just add your situation here.

What were you doing when your Zune froze on the 30th/31st of December?

Yes mine finally ran flat after 2 and a half hours. I'm not doing anything till I hear what MS has to say and if they try to remedy it.

I'm hoping a simple firmware flash will put things right.

If it doesnt...as a UK Zune user with stacks of Zune accessories I'm rather worried.

I guess Mr Ballmer isnt going to see in a happy new year as the Zune was just starting to hit its stride and get somewhere. Now as far as the media are concerend Zunes are dead.

Fingers crossed folks!

Mine was happily playing along yesterday when about 30 seconds into a song it rebooted itself. I have it sitting in a docking station on the Altec Lansing speaker set. I turned it off last night, and when I looked at it this morning it is stuck on the start up screen.
I bought this from Woot a couple of years ago and this is the first issue I have had with it.
Bummer.

It was connected and was done syncing, I turned off the zune software and didn't pay attention that it just hung on the zune startup screen. a couple of hours ago I picked it up and nothing works. No reset method, or anyting.... hey its going to be new years eve and I had the party ready on my zune.... oh boy..

Hello guys.

Las night, I was playing on my zune the new 3.1 games and decided to close it for some good night sleep. When I woke up, I was prompted by the boot screen, and... that's how it remained. I decided to let it stay like that until it formats his battery but no effect so far....

So..

Zune 30gb firmware 3.1.

Is there some word from microsoft about this? Thanks in advance.

edit: someone here sais that this can be a temporary fix.

Lightbulb Well this made it to Engadget fyi - there might be a fix

Or at least workaround for now...so the article reads. Don't intend on advertising but it might help some of you for now. Apparently a battery removal un-sticks you. Not sure how tough it is to do though. Open-heart surgery? Anyhow here's the link to Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/31/3...december-31st/

I am a Zen owner myself (jaded though - don't get me started! Ok, I can't resist the chance to bitch some) and have my own set of problems to deal with (SD card integration [or lack there of] messed up quartz clock crystal that doesn't keep accurate time, random freezes too, messed up music library browsing...I could go on) but ya - I feel for you guys. At least it seems to only be afflicting the 30 GB'ers. Zune's committing "Zunicide" is tragic...at least my Zen is just schizophrenic.

Hope you guys get some help from Microsoft. Creative doesn't give a rat's ass about us...

MS have put up a statement acknowledging the problem on the Support forum at Zune.Net.

Case of wait and see.

Thanks for the link, I actually just didn't notice it in the upper right hand corner (what a small "announcement")

I followed the "unplug battery" instructions and agree it isn't pretty but it worked.
http://www.zunescene.mobi/forums/ind...3249#msg513249

(Not recommended if you are not used to dealing with extremely small things and experience with open heart surgery may help)

I will be playing music for the New Years party from my zune after all...

Add another to the list. Was reading [H] this morning when I saw it, and decided to check mine. Lo and behold, it was already off, and never loaded when I turned it back on. Unplugged the battery earlier (and cleaned some pocket lint out :P) and it's working again. Thankfully, I synced all my music the day before so I'm in no need of an update. I used it before I went to bed though (around 2-3AM EST) so I dunno about everyone freezing at certain time. Might've been 12AM PST (Seattle) though, in which case ignore that.

Hi All:

Just a quick note to let you know that we are aware of the Zune30 freeze issue. I don't have an update on the source of the problem or any fixes, but please be assured that our team was woken up this morning and hot-footed into the office to get right on this. We're working on it, and when news comes to hand, I'll pass it along.

Cheers, Dave.

Well, I have to say, this is most odd. Mine froze this morning. Note to everyone: don't remove your battery! Though it's likely that by now you have no warranty to void, it's just a bad idea to fix such a simple issue; just let the bettery run dry. Luckily, mine was nearly dead when it happened. :>
