Isn't there a new update coming this month sometime?

Anyone know anything about the update!

Yep. I number of fixes have been confirmed, but not too much is know about new features.

A number of tag issues have been addressed (ID3v2.4 added, support for ID3 tags in FLAC and Ogg, disk number tag supported, and others.)

The problem where the player does a hard reset and rebuilds the DB if you try to power it off while the backlight is off has been fixed.

I think a problem deleting files has been fixed.

Major enhancements have been made to the Go List, but we don't know the details.

Supposedly, there will be improved accelerated scrolling, but that's not confirmed.

Two biggies that are being worked on, but probably won't make it in this release are:
1) Adding ReplayGain support (this is just being evaluated, but at least they're looking at it)
2) Removing requirement for SMC for video. Meaning popular 3rd party converters could be used instead.

I think I saw that the "Go List" will be extended from 50 to 200 tracks....but don't quote me on that

Default Song Limit!

I thought i had read in october that they were also going to address the SONG LIMIT ISSUE!!!!!

Which to me would be the number 1 problem they should be trying to fix!

I mean what is the point of having a player that can have up to 40 gigs of capacity and not handle more then 4000 songs?

I buy Sandisk products because of the upgradability but this fact escaped my research till it was to late!

I believe you are correct. I think Sansafix said they would look at increasing it in the next FW, but I don't think we have a definite confirmation or know what the new limit might be.

I'm sure Sandisk will fix the song limit issue in due time. But 4000 songs at roughly averaging 4 minutes/per song = over 11 days of continuous music with no repeats!. Is it really an issue..??

I think it is if you want to carry your entire library with you, and you have a lot of short songs, maybe. With my 4gb Fuze plus 8gb card I've never broken the 2,500 song barrier, although I was keeping about 150mb free for podcasts. I also have a lot of longer songs though. I have started using my Clip for the podcasts though, to avoid the Fuze refresh time, so I'll have to see how much I can squeeze onto it.....in the name of science and all But with the price drops, people are getting 8gb Fuzes w/8 or even 16gb(I want one) cards, and there I could see it being an issue, I guess.

Default Repeat in shuffle problem with lists over 2000 songs?

I read also on the Sansa forum that after you breach the 2000 song mark in a particular list you will possibly have repeats within that list!

The closest I've come to that, is the other day, on 2 occasions in the same evening, I heard a song , followed by the live version of the same song from a live CD. It was actually pretty cool

I think the most important updates for now should be bigger album art when playing a song(besides the view option) and more file info such as bitrate, file type, song/album year, etc.

Last word, a day or two ago(I didn't sleep the one night) was "a week or two" and I agree with t9girl....sleep timer would be cool, (and easy...clip has it) and using my own pictures as wallpaper would be cool too

Well, it looks like Sandisk missed November for their next firmware release. So, what kind of odds does anyone want to offer on Sandisk releasing the next version in December. The flutter problems are really getting annoying. I know, you can change the EQ for one of them and re-encode for the other, but it just feels like I shouldn't need to do any of these things. Changing the EQ is not my cup of tea. Although it wouldn't bother me much with many audiobooks, when I listen to music, I want to hear as close to what was intended as possible. As far as re-encoding, It's just a real pain. Most of the encodings that are giving me problems are mp3/CD audiobooks that were encoded at 128kb cbr. Since I am purchasing the books in mp3 format on a CD, I don't have the ability to go back to wav rips. I'm basically, unencoding and then re-encoding, which we all know will loose quality. As these start out as 128kb encodes, there's not a lot to work with. In the end, I just hope Sandisk can get these out soon. I've a couple of friends that have bought fuzes on my recommendation, and these little issues have come back to haunt that recommendation.
