Obviously the misleading title was to get you to actually read this post...
Anyway, just moved and I got my cable hooked up today. Went to speedtest.net to determine how fast it was... Apparently my ISP hasn't learned to throttle my connection yet. I'm getting ridiculously fast connection speeds. Can anyone match this with cable, or anything else? ![]() Tried again halfway across the world. I wonder when they'll start limiting me to the 6Mb I pay for.

My issue is that no useful speedtest server is near me. For example, I get better results from a Norway-based server (1500+ km away) than from one in my own city.
We had a "big pipe bragging" contest some time ago, but I can't find the old thread at all.

something interesting...
our provider about 1 and a half years ago changed all the plans around, with different speeds/download limit/cost. My mum just said stuff them, we'll stick with what we've got (upgrading cost heaps). We have been on 512kb download with 5GB on peak and 5GB off-peak for all that time for 59.95/month. (even when we went over that limit they didn't reduce our speeds!) I was interested the other day and questioned mum on our connection, she couldn't tell me so i went online and found we were paying 59.95/month for the above. then it said UPGRADE? we clicked yes. We upgraded to 1500kb download with 4GB on peak and 8GB off-peak, saved $160 and got a free wireless phone, all without paying any extra from the 59.95/month! The phone arrived today. Yay! Silly providers...

Well actually, I was mostly just surprised I had that kind of bandwidth over cable. Especially with all the hullabaloo about how they've secretly been tiering and capping monthly bandwidth on supposed "unlimited" accounts.

, and I thought 1500kb/s was big! In Aus, you can only get ADSL2 in the capital cities, and out here you are lucky if you get ADSL! It sucks

This speed test site seems to have a cap for finnish speed tests, I get the same result for my connection at home as I do for my work connection. My work connection is 24/12 and gets the same 8000kb/s, but then again its probibly getting used at the same time quite abit as I run the test :P |

If only they would pipe FiOS to my neck of the woods, cable has some serious bandwidth, but I don't feel like paying for all of it.
