Z5 navigation difficulty

My Z5 no longer navigates smoothly up and down. If I keep running my finger down the center pad, towards the down arrow, it eventually jumps around and I can get to where I want to go, but it appears as if the control contacts need cleaning. Everything else seems to work properly. Has anyone else run across this problem and have a solution to offer? With step-by-step instructions, I would have no problem opening up the unit and repairing it. Anyone willing to guide me through this process?

I have the very same problem. It's quite annoying...
I think as well the problem could be solved with a simple contact cleaning but I never dared to open my Z5
